It was already inexcusable that Google specifically being at least very minimally willing to act like a good citizen re: FOSS funding/resourcing waa so load-bearing in the 2000s/2010s, and if we repeat the exact same thing with Anthropic over the next 15 years I'm going to lose my fucking mind

Ich habe Sumuncu aus den Augen verloren, als er mal was bescheutertes mit Xavier Naidoo und dem köstlich überforderten Oliver Polak gemacht hat. Ist der noch weiter abgedriftet?

*sometimes* when i open an ics file an app handles that and it knows what to do with it But do i remember what app, what platform? iPhone, Mac, Firefox? The Google Drive app has no clue, that’s the most recent failure This is so stupid

I did some workshops at works similar to “git from the bits up” in order to lessen the pain of my fellow git users. Now if I wanted to do anything like that for jj, i don’t know if i should build up on that or if jj by itself is graspable for the uninitiated
010
Joh @joh.dev · 23/09/2026
May I ask you if you think that having a good grasp of the git data model, “the DAG”, is helpful or necessary to get the hang of jj?

AtmosphereConf 2027
The third edition of the global gathering for the Atmosphere Community is taking place in Amsterdam, April 29th - May 2nd. This includes side-events and main conference days. Please RSVP with your interest, subscribe for updates at https://news.atmosphereconf.org, and watch us build out the website with lots of fun features https://atmosphereconf.org As well as in person, we'll also be streaming and have different ways to participate remotely. Atmosphere Conference is run by the community, for the community, as an annual global gathering to connect, share, celebrate, and learn from each other. We welcome newcomers and want to engage with new perspectives. It's a community home for builders, supporters, and participants in the atproto ecosystem. We maintain collective resources, seed projects, and convene our community to ensure every member has genuine voice in shaping the ecosystem's future. #atproto #atmosphereconf #atmosphereconf2027 #europe

I remember being the guy who did the “megamerge” aka octopus, back when we did a big bang migration and i integrated the work of four teams. Either my fellows thought i did witch craft or they were just happy that i was their accountability sink. Can’t tell in hindsight

i would absolutely do that, reliable 10 Mbit is better than my shitty Wifi rn. but 10base2 needs a different impedance on the wire than tv-coax

Joh @joh.dev · 15/09/2026
btw: MoCA, Multimedia over Coax is yet another alternative

yeah, those prices are something. i guess it won’t be a huge market when copper is so much cheaper and flexible. however i have an apartment where using even “slim” copper cables is not feasible

FTTR, fibre to the room, is a keyword. There are some dedicated products for that. No experience with that, but I curious myself

If your app cannot do that it is NOT a MOBILE app.
000
Joh @joh.dev · 15/09/2026
If you want to create a MOBILE app that WORKS in REAL LIFE, outside, on the road, you need to design FROM THE GROUND UP with the assumption that your app DOES NOT receive ANY USABLE data while BELIEVING it is ONLINE.

Joh @joh.dev · 15/09/2026

one advantage of a huge screen is i don’t have to open/close/drag/resize windows/widgets all the time and just leave them at some optimal place. it doesn’t help that i can’t configure Jetbrains however I like.

Joh @joh.dev · 14/09/2026
wouldn’t I need virtual space on top? I don’t want anything up there that I look at for some extended time, that’s why i wish i could put some tool there that i look at only occasionally and then only for a short time.

Joh @joh.dev · 12/09/2026
Ya, me too. It was the only monitor available during Covid and it was on sale. I like it. The only issue is that Jetbrains doesn’t allow to put tool windows to be on top, so i have to put a source code window there and scroll so i don’t have to look up too much.
