I saw "Lupin The Third: The First" via YouTube rental tonight for the first time ever. This came out in 2019. I am embarrassed to be so late to this party, because that film was an incredible love letter to it's source material, and dare I say the best design for the characters yet!

Interpreting "Lolita" as a taboo love story, is not interpreting the book correctly. It is a depiction of pedophilia & abuse from the predators perspective, trying to justify his disgusting actions. The point was he was evil, an unreliable narrator. It would not make sense to call it a love story.

I think this is the most depressing look on Izzy's face the entire show. He's trying to be stoic as always. His eyes are so empty. He knows shit is about to get worse. And he particularly holds himself more accountable/at fault, even for things he didn't do. It's heart shatteringly good acting.
