Samuel Alito has recused himself from a Supreme Court climate case, after ethics watchdogs uncovered his fossil fuel stockholdings. Instead of relying on the justices to occasionally do the right thing, we need Congress to enact real SCOTUS reform.

The ultra-wealthy keep trying to pit the rest of us against each other with scare tactics ("communists!" "men in the ladies room!!" "brown people!!!" "drag queens!!!!") to keep us from noticing that our real problem is THEM. They want us to fight *any* war—except a class war. Happy Labor Day.

If the senile diaper don wants delay taxpayer funded additions to Bribe Force One, ignore security recommendations, and make it easier for the world to get to him... My only question is who gets the insurance payout when it gets shot down? Is this a win /win?

The Democratic Party has let a consulting industry exploit elderly donors in its name, wreck its reputation and finances in the process, and walk away rich whether the party wins or loses. When a mirror is held up, the instinct is to break the glass rather than look. On why the press looks away:

A generation of neoliberal advocates have made their fortune pushing the Democratic party away from working families and towards corporate payoffs and monied interests. They will continue to advocate that their betrayal is a winning strategy as they sell out labor and the party of their fathers.

Hardly a day goes by without my getting email from someone looking for ways to do good with tech. From computer science students thinking about post-grad careers to seasoned coders with decades of experience, there's an army of hackers looking for a way to turn their expertise into public goods. 1/

Trump is not solely responsible for the rampant, obscene corruption happening right now. Corruption takes two sides. Trump can put a "For Sale" sign on the Oval Office, but let's not ignore how these CEOs are lining up to buy their way in.

I'm starting to find these polls to be meaningless. Is this the 40hr work week and paid time off "too liberal", or women & PPL of color voting "too liberal" Or maybe its "too liberal" to be against jackbooted thugs kicking in your door... An Overton Window for context would be nice.

If there's one empirical insight I'd want everyone to understand about American politics, it's this: America's problems are solved problems. Just not here. What would change if the US simply matched the average of 31 peer democracies? Not Denmark or Norway. Just the middle of the pack. 🧵
Screenshot of a data visualization titled “The Cost of American Exceptionalism,” subtitled “What would change if the U.S. matched the OECD average?” The page explains that each card shows how outcomes would change if the U.S. matched the average of 31 peer democracies. Below, a section labeled “Economy & Inequality” displays eight cards comparing U.S. figures to OECD averages. Highlights include: +$19K per household per year in redistributed income and +$96K in redistributed wealth if the top 1% matched OECD shares; a 71% lower CEO-to-worker pay ratio (from 354× to 101×); 50 million more workers with union coverage; 26 million more people with health insurance; $2.1 trillion saved annually in healthcare spending; $691 less per person per year in prescription drug costs; and intergenerational economic mobility being twice as high. Each card shows the U.S. value alongside the OECD average.
