I was a passenger in a car heading west on Lougheed Highway this afternoon. It was a particularly long day so I had nodded off sometime between Blue Mountain and Gilmore. At a light, the driver of the car says a guy in a car next to us is trying to get my attention.

ABC Vancouver is proposing a plebiscite in October’s elections about tougher laws on open air drug use and asking the province to build an involuntary care centre at the old St. Paul’s Hospital. But really it’s an opinion poll, because the city has no power on these issues.

This was a bizarre situation at the end of the public hearing, but this is a bit of over the top grandstanding about police investigations and protecting democracy. The city's rules around public hearings allows literally anyone to call in. Last night people abused the system. That's all.

I think I'm the last one who watches the 6pm CBC News here in Vancouver, because a couple of times this week they've done something really annoying. When the five-day weather forecast comes up, there isn't enough time before they also put the anchor up, so we can't see tomorrow's weather.

And Sim's like this when answering friendly questions. It's baffling for somebody who's run for mayor twice now. He seems undisciplined, unable or unwilling to get the needed advice from the city's vast communications department, or his own, as he has his own vast resources.

If the Vancouver police can’t explain why they need an extra $200,000 a week on top of their $497 million budget to police five blocks of car free activities, then I can make videos pointing out how much that works out to every hour for every block. We’ll update if they provide more information.

One of the losses coming from the shutting down of News 1130 is the showcase that @jackermann.bsky.social provided for authors. More than one author has told me a spot on his bookshelf segment, likely made their books bestsellers. He's also a keen reader, as you'll see from this interview I did:
