yeah I was originally planning to just use the physically simulated dice rolls, but someone pointed out it would be nice to know the result without actually waiting for the physical simulation to complete, at which point hey why not manipulate the dice rolls, and that led to my little test.

I reshuffle when it's empty (so every possible value gets used once) but I suppose one lever to tweak things would be an adjustable threshold. I suppose it depends how much you want to lie!

That exact cognitive bias (previous results don't affect the roll, but people still expect that) drives many games to have some sort of memory to the "random" results. Many games implement a more complicated system, but I usually use a shuffle bag newarteest.wordpress.com/2017/11/25/s...
