This is it in a nutshell. Tax breaks aside, a big reason studios hire European and Canadian crews is because their crew is cheaper because they are not paying for union healthcare or at least not in the same, elevated way as in the US.

Knew the numbers were down, didn’t realize by how much It does seem notable (if obvious!) that the output on broadcast TV has remained pretty stable. That’s a function of a finite number of primetime hours and days of the week, but stability is stability!

The accompanying graph shows a steady downward trajectory among free streaming and PVOD. Cable shows have gone down to a lesser extent but broadcast TV remains pretty consistent.
