I've just signed a contract with @princetonupress.bsky.social for my book When Things Get Personal: A Philosophical Guide to Conflict, and am getting down to my final round of revisions. Philosophy got really exciting for me when my research met real life, and I look forward to showing you how.

I'm a philosopher interested in how our understanding of what it is to be a person can shape our understanding of the dynamics of interpersonal relationships and conflict of all kinds. Looking for new ways to connect three years after quitting X. #FirstDayOnBluesky

The Walton family (who own Walmart) are worth over $400 billion, yet many of their employees are on SNAP. Bezos is worth over $400 billion, many Amazon employees require SNAP. The people who need help are not the problem. It’s corporate greed. It’s an unwillingness to pay a living wage.

Remembering that time in 2006 when I invited someone to come give a philosophy talk, offered our normal $500 honorarium, & got a polite reply if, "Because you are a friend, I will only ask for $5000." We had never met. We never did meet. But that's how we became friends.

Savoring that moment in a meeting when an administrator pulls up income/career data on graduates of a "practical" business degree & pulls up, on an impulse, Philosophy as an impractical degree for comparison. Friends, the data quite emphatically did not show what he thought they would show.

Thread on the importance of the history & understanding of marginalized citizens (the majority of the public, in the 19th century) to original meaning. I've long hoped justices would systematically take the "history & tradition" folks to task (like lots of scholars already do) on actual history.
