The term #fakenews was never about distinguishing factually from falsehood. It is merely a linguistic weapon in ideological warfare used to delegitimize one's political opponents. Read more in my article, "Fake News" & the Public Sphere, for @contexts.org journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....

Which is exactly why this article is so interesting. Fraser was a student of Habermas. She was also massively influenced by his way of thinking, yet had quite mixed feeling about him by the end. How can we reconcile with his complicated legacy?

Jared M. Wright, Ph.D. @jmwright.bsky.social · 01/04/2026
But Fraser's critique about subaltern counterpublics showed how the public sphere is not equally accessible to all. This view has been equally monumental in shaping my understanding. To me, their work is inseparable; I cannot think about Habermas without also thinking about Fraser.

RIP Jürgen Habermas. I first learned about Habermas as a university student thanks to the writings of Nancy Fraser. His concept of the public sphere and theory of communicative action have become cornerstones of the way I think about and study digital media and culture.

According to a new study by Anthropic analyzing the impact of #AI on 700 different professions, the job of #sociologist is currently 18% automatable and 40% augmentable. The study puts a positive spin on this, saying most jobs can be assisted but not replaced by AI. Not sure I feel as optimistic.
