According to a new study by Anthropic analyzing the impact of #AI on 700 different professions, the job of #sociologist is currently 18% automatable and 40% augmentable. The study puts a positive spin on this, saying most jobs can be assisted but not replaced by AI. Not sure I feel as optimistic.

What is the true function of 'fake news' in societies today? I wrote a policy brief, 'Fake News' & the Public Sphere, for the spring 2025 issue of ASA's Contexts Magazine @asanews.bsky.social @contexts.org #fakenews #disinformation #sociology #policy #openaccess journals.sagepub.com/doi/epdf/10....

After a great #ISAforum25 by @isa-sociology.org, I'm thrilled to have been elected as a new member of the Board of Directors for the #WG10 Working Group on Digital Sociology. Thank you everyone! I look forward to working hard to continue to elevate WG10 and the field of #digitalsociology.

Each year in my #Sociology of #NewMedia class, I ask students to write blog posts instead of traditional essays. Each year, they produce a variety of surprisingly interesting and insightful content. Check out the latest round of posts on our SOC220 class blog. soc220newmedia.wordpress.com/blog/

🎓 Curious about what we learn in #Sociology? This is my favorite class to teach at #TEDU. So far this semester, we have had great talks about selfies, memes, cats, hashtags, influencers, misinformation, collective intelligence, digital society, and more. #NewMedia #Communication #ExploreSociology

RIP Michael Burawoy I was fortunate enough to hear him speak multiple times, going all the way back to the 2014 ISA World Congress in Japan. He was one of the most inspiring sociologists I ever heard. We need more powerful communicators like him. #Sociology #PublicSociology
