Hey, Nashville. If you want to get serious about reducing traffic deaths and becoming a pedestrian and bike friendly city, here's a role model.

🚨NASA CERES satellite data shows another 4-year average record for global Absorbed Solar Radiation. Earth's Energy Imbalance has more than doubled over the past 20 years. We've been trying to warn about this and the impacts for years, but few seem to care.

seeing conservative men debate how to dress online is very funny. can't dress up or wear interesting casualwear bc you've made any visible interest in dress to be a sign of homosexuality. but you feel the need to dress better bc you've linked dress to respectability. a prison of your own making.

Screenshot from the linked article:

The telegraph engineers noticed that when a dash emerged from the cable, a dot rushed right behind it, making a message hard to understand. The electrical signals underwent signal retardation, whereby they spread into weaker and longer pulses, which relegated the engineers to the time-consuming work of confirming and repeating messages. Edward O. Wildman Whitehouse, a medical doctor turned ill-informed amateur electrician, was the cable’s chief science advisor and quarreled with Lord Kelvin on how to resolve this problem.

Kelvin knew that transmitting signals underwater would not be easy because the doctrine of squares applied; that is, the speed of the message decreased as the square of the total length of the wire. Kelvin’s approach was to make signals shorter (and he was ultimately proven correct). Whitehouse’s thinking was to amplify the signal by increasing the voltage. His solution proved disastrous. When Whitehouse tested it, he roasted the cable and it never worked again.

I don't see RFK Jr. or other MAHA mavens having similarly productive engagements with experts on vaccine efficacy and safety. Wolfers's recommendation suffers from a "both-sides" fallacy that is contradicted by empirical historical evidence.

There is a political asymmetry here: When Anthony Fauci sat down to talk with Larry Kramer and other ACT-UP activists about the efficacy of clinical trials for early-generation anti-retrovirals, it was a productive exchange of views and ideas, and improved FDA/NIH/CDC science. ...

The omissions make it clear that the reporter is selectively reporting things that support a point he wants to make, rather than examining all the evidence and allowing the reader to draw their own conclusions.

3. Abigail Spanberger winning Virginia in 2025 after clearly stating her opposition to state bans on trans athletes in the face of Earle-Sears's "Spanberger is for they/them" ads. 4. John Ewing winning the mayoral race in Omaha NE by mocking his opponent's obsession with trans people using toilets.
Ad from John Ewing, Jr.'s 2025 Mayoral campaign in Omaha NE: "Jean is focused on potties. John is focused on fixing potholes."

But... Clinical use of AI for note-taking, diagnosis, and advise produces clinically dangerous errors 22% of the time. This feels like the latest in a long history of attempts to improve numerical productivity in healthcare by increasing quantity and decreasing quality. www.arise-ai.org/report
* 100 authentic consult cases across 10 specialties, with 4,249 possible management actions and 12,747 expert annotations.

* Across 31 LLMs, potential severe harm occurs in up to 22% of cases, and errors of omission account for 77% of severe harms (failing to recommend critical tests or treatments).

Yeah. It feels like those things people would post on social media that have no legal force. And even if it did have force regarding the recording, once the story is published nothing stops another journalist from cherry-picking bits of your words from that story, and quoting them out of context.

If Congress wanted to do something about the president flouting their will, they could and would. The Constitution gives them power over those who betray the public trust. If we vote for a better Congress in November, this kind of abuse can be stopped.

Below the title, the summary text asks: "Is the victory of the AfD in Germany a dark day for democracy or a glimmer of hope for sex realists? By David Allison."
