And a lot of those relationships have already begun anyway, eg UoL and the Institute for Rural and Coastal Health giving research attention and infrastructural investment to Mablethorpe, where there is no longer a secondary school. But a lot of the positive work done isn't as visible as it should be

Definitely a rising sentiment of neglect of places like Boston and big swathes of the coast, as you can see in some of the comments on the article. And they're not completely wrong. Want to see the case made for HEIs providing growth while also building relationships with their wider communities...

I've been reading lots of the local press from the opening of UoL recently and it's remarkably optimistic (only the odd comment about neglecting the rest of the county). Pleasantly surprised to see a positive story about it now, it really has brought a lot of opportunity, jobs, and life to Lincs.

Started today commentating on Danny Ings’ last-minute equaliser in his debut for Wycombe, ended it at Wembley watching England and the World Champions. Some day of football.

No Wycombe players near me either. I used to walk past Theo Walcott's grandparents' house in Walters Ash back in the day. Though Chris Forino once spent an international break in the village 2 minutes from me where I live/d in Lincolnshire, which I found pretty funny.

I’m afraid to say I’m Matt Bloomfield @ 1271. Amusingly, despite going to my first game in 2011, I saw plenty from the 1200s because of longevity or second spells. Nathan Tyson, Kevin Betsy, Richard Keogh, etc.!

Fair point! Wonder if it puts managers off at all, but if everybody’s doing it now, then presumably not.

Jack Deasley @jldeasley.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Yeah, I think you're right that it's in order to reduce disruption, but that goes out of the window when you're sacking managers after less than a year! I wonder how big the impact of who managers work with is...
110
Jack Deasley @jldeasley.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Yeah, think he's in with a chance. Find the first-team coach appointment a bit strange today. Doesn't necessarily mean Hounsell will get it (presumably just replacing Alex Morris), but why wouldn't you want the new Head Coach to have a say on who they are working so closely with?
110
Jack Deasley @jldeasley.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Again, I wonder how different that window is if Bloomfield hadn't left in mid-Jan? Did it enable them to go harder on new signings? Or would it have happened that way anyway? So many questions...

Jack Deasley @jldeasley.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Felt like the sort of thing that you do on Football Manager as a kid, then realise that doesn't work! Yeah, I think Blooms must have been fairly clued in, and suspect that the apparent issue between DR and MB must have gone beyond their roles in transfers. But I've no clue!!
120
Jack Deasley @jldeasley.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Especially when it was such a change from Dodds to Duff. My instinct is they'll go back to a younger, less experienced coach. But that maybe doesn't fit in with their impatience with the first-team?
111
Jack Deasley @jldeasley.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Agree - I think that would be a great contribution to a future fans' forum, for what it's worth! Yeah, I don't see anyone else getting any more out of the team, especially with the dearth of options right now. I have frankly no clue who they'll go for...
110
Jack Deasley @jldeasley.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
I wonder if they'd have been more patient had we not been flying under Bloomfield? Or perhaps it would just have made the extent of their planned changes less overt. That January window will be difficult to understand for some time I feel.
110
Jack Deasley @jldeasley.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Agree! Easy to get lost in the fact that there is a long-term plan, which has been communicated, and is grounded in some successful examples. But you're right, the short-termism of the first-team decisions is making it feel less stable/enjoyable and seems to run contrary to a lot of the bigger plans

Seemed more suited to a Dodds system where he would be a LWB or left-sided centre-half in a 3. Feels like injuries and being played out of position at the end of last season snowballed into some really poor performances. Orient and Bradford two really low moments. Real shame, there's a player there!

Yeah I wondered if it was the partnerships, and don’t know who our ideal starting centre halves are. Cook and Anders perhaps? It’ll be interesting to see how that evolves in the first part of the season.

Agree! Wonder if a loan would be the most sensible option for Fink, then get in another striker (or even 2) to compete with Tezgel. Think that our very unique experience of ownership since 2012 has made it more difficult for people to get behind it. Hopefully that perception changes with time.
