With a heavy heart, I have to announce my early resignation as editor of the AAG Review of Books journal. My position at WSU will be eliminated by Oct. 2027 due to budget cuts. It’s been an honor to serve the discipline and fellow scholars.

In "Black Undertow," Hugo ka Canham @riotousdeathscapes.bsky.social listens for African ancestors who linger in water, sand, corals, ritual, and unruly imaginations along the shores of the Indian Ocean, where blackness and queerness frequently intersect. Read the intro for free: buff.ly/eolCsbI
Cover of Black Undertow by Hugo ka Canham. The cover is an expressionist styled painting using thick paint strokes and high contrast colors such as whites, grey blues, and a bright crimson. The paint features a group of black figures wearing long white garments. They stand on a white ground against a moody sky. The bottom of the cover is solid white and contains the title in a red lowercase sans serif font on the left side and the author’s name in a dark grey blue all caps serif font on the right side.

An insightful essay by Eric Carter on four(!) books about stadiums and sports marketing, and urban developments. Centered mostly on North American teams, Carter explores the meaning of the stadium, its commercialization, and its influence on fan culture.

It’s incredible what people will compartmentalize. FIFA has demonstrated what a corrupt organization they are for at least the last 16 years, but Balogun having his ban suspended is what triggers people. Not FIFA’s complicity in human rights violations, though. Not the bribery and extortion, though
