My chum Joe has a new season of his excellent vocabulary-based game Word Dungeon up on Kickstarter. It’s cheap, fun, and ready for you to download, print and play as soon as the campaign is over: www.kickstarter.com/projects/wha...

Oh bothers. I was pondering moving to Vodaphone from O2 for exactly the same reason. Drat.

My wrists are mostly OK and I occasionally hire or borrow a bike. But it turns out I’m completely lacking in talent. Still fun, though marginally less so when you’re lying on your back in nettles watching your bike about to land on top of you.

By the end of the month there’ll be a bike park trail called “Pelican Humper,” and like five people will understand why.

Worse, I think it might be… a fixie. That’s the trouble with diffusion models. They’ve no idea when a trend is over.

Absolutely loving the achingly hip new deli next to campus, which is doing a roaring trade for students who haven’t yet realised that none of us can afford a £6 iced vanilla cold foam matcha.

Looks about right. Also: how dare you omit The Good Place, Deadwood, and the pinnacle of televisual craft that was How2?

The only problem I have with this is that the ghostwriter is clearly OK with lazy stereotypes. Honestly, the books may be popular but the ones I’ve looked at absolutely suck.

Anyone else notice that wasps are getting smarter? Thirty years ago you had to coax them into a glass or they'd be in your face for hours. These days they find their own way out after a few minutes.

I’m not sure where to start.
An illustrative figure in a book, captioned “Figure 1.1 How the computer sees us.” I’m not sure how to start describing the figure itself. Line drawing. It’s a … face? Head? With one massive eye. No nose or mouth. Large ears. From the top of the head, where we might expect hair, is a huge finger, arcing up and to the right. It’s bigger than the rest of the head, grotesque but I don’t think intentionally so. I have no idea what’s going on, and this is page 19 of 470 or so.

Trying to convince my kids that I can time travel. I’ve lived my entire life in the past, and I’m spectacularly consistent at entering the future at a rate of 1 second per second.

There’s a moment where a senior Reform staffer names a bunch of people who donate to the party through their children. All the names are bleeped out. It’s jaw-dropping.

This should be the end of the Reform party. But it should also prompt a complete overhaul of the polling industry and the Electoral Commission. The priority has to be securing domestic politics from foreign influence. That that’s happening is no longer a hypothetical, it’s demonstrated.

Yep, very similar here. And I _think_ it’s defensible, though I have concerns about how the ‘next’ framework/language/whatever gets bootstrapped. The need to write a broad training corpus seems highly problematic, given how ghastly so much documentation still is. So how is the LLM trained?

Soldering a beginner circuit. So far, I’ve had to remove the IC holder (missing some pins), got an electrolytic cap the wrong way around, then soldered the desoldering braid to the board. I’m four components in. FML.

The first question the professor posed to her new invention, the consequenceometer, was: "If I can learn the consequences of decisions before deciding, will I be more decisive?" "No," the device said, "you will probe the consequences in ever greater depth, indecisive." She never used it again.
