Starting to look at adopting a dog, it's been a year+ since we lost Roscoe and our family is ready. I am stuck between the extremes of "I want to take them ALL home" and "nope, not quite perfect, next!". I know we'll meet the right one at some point, but oof my emotions. (Roscoe 10 years ago)

It's a wonderful sunny summer day, and a wet and salty black lab mutt stands on the wet sand of low tide in the Puget Sound.

This is the first thing I ever saw Tim Curry in. I was too young to know or care about the actors or actresses, they were just the bad guys. But the performance and this song sure stuck with me! www.youtube.com/watch?v=0T_R...

Did some canoe camping, lovely water, great swimming, no wildfire smoke nor bugs to speak of. A+

View from the rear of a canoe, showing the center and bow paddlers, clear waters, a spit of land with pine trees, and a far distant shore of low hills and peaks peeking.

FYI there is no "real" reason why Rome "fell." Its power waned for the usual, mundane reasons: widening gap between rich and poor, inability to maintain infrastructure, incompetent leadership, pointless wars, endless persecution of marginalized groups who performed vital labor, etc.

Fuck these fucking fucks who murdered this man. Prison time would be too kind. Saving this for the next time ICE comes up in conversation with who voted for it. This is what they wrought, they deserve to have their faces rubbed in it. Fuck reconciliation, fuck compromise, I want vengeance.

WTH is up with the video feed decisions for this England v. Norway game? Lots of little "was that a foul?" moments and we're getting like zero replays. I get the focus on field and this game hasn't has any slow moments, but it feels like fewer replays of interesting moments than other games.

The thing is I just love these little cars. They tickle so many of my interests; car design, toy design, manufacturing, motorsports history, picking up a little treat for myself after completing the grocery shopping...

Matchbox 1968 Chevy C10 in the morning sun. This is 2026 Collectors #16/20, part of the fancier series with full metal chassis+body, rubber tires, and full decoration.

The truck is blue with multicolored side stripes. Interestingly the grill+headlamp area is molded completely smooth and relies totally on the (excellent) tampo for all the detail.

Nice morning for ocean roll bread pudding(!!) from the local bakery, plus I scored a whole box of USA-made files from a former neighbor's estate sale. RIP Don, will be thinking of you when I use these.

A cardboard box with a dozen+ metal and wood files of various shape and size.

Sparrow Bakery Ocean Rolls are like cinnamon rolls but with a lovely crusty sugar/salt/cardamom flavoring and honey. Day-olds have been transformed into bread pudding, dusted with powdered sugar, warmed up, pictured here in a to-go box.

Mother's day paddle, we had a lovely day out with a nice picnic on the beach, some art, some practicing casting, and a quick very cold swim!

Picture taken from the stern of a canoe showing a young girl sitting in the center and a woman in the bow, at rest, on a narrower arm of an alpine lake with a mountain in the distance.

A man and girl walk along the shore of an alpine lake, with a mountain far in the distance. The sky is blue with a few wispy clouds.

A woman sitting in a camp chair along a lakeshore paints a small watercolor study of the lake and the mountain in the distance.

A young girl, clad in her dad's large sweater for extra warmth, practices casting with her fishing pole.

8865 Test Car, one of the best xmas presents I ever received. I love this era of Lego Technic.

Lego Technic set 8865 Test Car, fully assembled, front three quarter view from above. Four wheel independent suspension, rear differential, rack and pinion steering, pop up headlights, seats adjust fore and aft, V-4 engine, 3-speed gearbox.

Lego Technic 8865 Test Car rear 3/4 view. It's a whole lot of cool function wrapped in good 'ol studded beams that form the suggestion of bodywork, which I personally love. I've never warmed to the modern panel-heavy Technic style, IMO if a car needs to be stylistically representative of a real car, system bricks should be used. And Icons-level exterior + Technic interior function is the dream, but Lego seems intent on keeping them separate.

Lego Technic 8865 Test Car bird's eye view.

Cars&Coffee last weekend was pretty great. Perfect weather and a bunch of cars I hadn't seen before. Starting with this home built tadpole trike! 4cyl Honda, S2000 6-Speed, Subaru diff and axles. The shift pattern is backwards, the owner said it's like second nature now.

Have y'all ever witnessed the complexity of an in-dash 6-disc CD changer? I am amazed. So many little moving parts and pivots and hinges and slides and three motors each with separate gear trains. A single missing gear tooth threw everything out of sync. Glad a used OEM replacement was cheap.

One side of an in-dash 6-disc cd changer, with ramps and pins and gears and slides and flaps and pivots..oh my!

The underside of the unit, long levers, some electronics, a few visible gear teeth. I amazed it worked for so long honestly (car is a 2007).

Interior view showing the trays that hold CDs. Each moves up and down, then a reader arm would pivot out. Each thing in sync of movement but also stabilized from the car's motions.

The culprit spur gear (white) with missing tooth, that threw everything out of sync and trapped a few of my CDs inside.

Leftover pulled pork + leftover cornmeal pancakes. I'm told it's a thin line between genius and madness.

A cornmeal pancake sits restfully on a square ceramic plate, upon it lies a mass of pulled pork, topped with another pancake. It's too bad bsky does not have smell-o-vision, for it is lovely, and tasted delicious too!

Re: Pie. The absolute best, ever, is of course my Nana's Cassata. Not only is it delicious, it has by far the best secondary snackings: biscotti dough(crust) and ricotta. We make it all from scratch, and there really is nothing like a spoonful of fresh ricotta with sugar on top.

Hello friends, if you see this please stop and rest a while, your doomscrolling can wait a few minutes. Enjoy the clear, cold, still waters of Waldo Lake, while Roscoe attempts to sit still and not capsize us.

The viewer is sitting in the stern of a canoe on a sunny day, with a black lab mutt in the center and another paddler in the bow, resting. The water is mirror still and extremely clear/blue, reflecting the blue sky and a few fluffy clouds. Low mountains are visible in the distance beyond a wooded shoreline.
