First proposed in September 2000. I remember back then way before the whole urbanist reawakening they wanted to create a walkable downtown for Middletown. Instead the NIMBYs fought for an ugly clown that scares little kids on an empty lot for 25 years. We live in a sick, sick world.

Rainy Sunday, would be a great day to head to the library. Oh wait, unlike most major cities, Jersey City closes all libraries on Sundays 😅 But HCCC library is open! If you are looking for a place to read and browse (but not borrow), any Hudson County resident with a muni library card can access.

Is this area of NJ on either side of 280 but in between train lines known to feel especially soul-less and car-centric? Just endless 4-lane high-speed roadways and strip malls and low-density with no variation in form. Feels like it makes a lot of sense Livingston Mall died.

If it followed the pattern of the 9, the return stop would be Washington Blvd and 4th St, which seems pretty reasonable to walk over to.

1. It's really important the NHJ wrote this whether you agree with her other ideas or not 2. Lack of public school teacher accountability is completely core to the issue here, and it goes far beyond the worst schools. 3. Like JCPS, funding not the issue Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2026/09/20/m...

2nd St between the HBLR tracks and Washington is comically wide. Could easily add a two-way protected bike lane plus the little greenway in-between would connect to 1st St.

IIHS has a leaderboard of deaths normalized by vehicle-years. The Dodge make probably needs to be blanket banned for creating an entire portfolio of death machines. www.iihs.org/ratings/driv...

Traffic engineering orthodoxy has been finally defeated, and the intersection is being converted to a much safer all-way intersection. So we need new stop signs. But instead of installing them properly, they are reusing the perpendicular useless sign pole and the stop sign is too far in and hidden 😭

Jersey City department incompetence begets Jersey City department incompetence. Many years ago people complained about the danger in crossing one street. Not only did they respond with useless yellow pedestrian crossing signs, but they mistakenly installed them on the much safer perpendicular st. /

Pickled cabbage & carrots in Taiwan is called Shanghainese pickled vegetables. In Shanghai they are called Taiwanese pickled vegetables. At 99 Ranch they are called Cantonese pickled vegetables. We long for the other. 99 Ranch restocked. Get their new randomly in stock goods while you can. IYKYK

The 86 just did me dirty. Coming in one minute. Now coming in an hour. Or is it? The NJ Transit app doesn't show the next 86 as coming either, but then the app also has zero service advisories for the 86 👎👎👎 @customeradvocate.bsky.social

There is so much misinformation in NJ about what are the main traffic safety dangers. It is very simple. The vast, vast majority of the issue is: 1. Cars crashing into pedestrians 2. Cars crashing into other cars 3. Cars crashing into fixed, non-moving objects Biking is not getting more dangerous /

The traces crashes are constantly leaving behind. I don't remember when this crash barrier hasn't been crashed out. It's basically public art at this point. (Still an awesome protected bike lane)

IDK. Other people took it the same way as me. It's in the broader context of the knee-jerk against manual enforcement. The NYC DOT report specifically covers the stats and importance of manual enforcement, not just automated. How about this reply? I think they did mean manual enforcement is a waste.

NYC DOT: "💡 We've identified a set of extremely bad and deadly drivers. It is very clear and isn't close". War on Cars: "🙈 Enforcement couldn't possibly work, this is whack-a-mole". We should be raising insurance and suspending licenses on these deadly drivers, not discounting enforcement.

There is a problem in the Vision Zero community of repeating a disproven and tired line of discounting traffic enforcement. Turning off traffic enforcement created a disaster. Road design didn't get worse yet crash deaths skyrocketed. NYCDOT found 2 cell phone violations / year = 40X KSI crash risk!

My favorite proposed Meadowlands trails access project is the long-standing plans to connect the Tonnelle Ave HBLR station to the Meadowlands Exposition Center and the surrounding commercial district. Increase HBLR access & ridership and provide a missing link between Secaucus and North Hudson.

Jersey City parking enforcement is currently refusing to enforce illegal parking by commercial vehicles: 1. Double-parking by trucks in the roadway or in bike lanes or in crosswalks 2. Contractors parked in loading zones but not actually loading. They should buy parking permits if they need.

Kind of wild that with/after the rain, the air quality in Jersey City is still completely terrible (77.9 ug/m^3 is like maybe 220 AQI). Sometimes the world doesn't work the way it seems like it intuitively should.

Public sector healthcare costs far outpacing the private sector is going to destroy NJ. People get confused because of the feeling that healthcare costs are just out of control in general, but that just isn't true. Public sector can't be growing at ~17% while the private sector is growing at ~7%.

The spot AQI in Jersey City is roughly 137-171 right now. Even if you think you feel okay and don't smell the burnt from yesterday, air quality in actuality is extremely bad. I took a walk with a mask on, read 48-60 ug/m^3. AQI 100 = 35 ug/m^3; dividing gives the range.

This is how I feel about JCBOE. If you do not follow their shennanigans, you need to understand it is just a complete utter clown show of special interests, incompetence, malice, patronage, and corruption. Mayoral control is the road to responsibility.

Cars are the biggest source of air pollution in NJ. Climate change, wildfires, particulates, asthma alley here in Jersey City. Remind me again why parking reform is a bridge too far?

Severe flash flooding in Monmouth County. Normally a 45 minute drive took two hours. This isn't the shore. Flooding on many roadways. Too car-centric and too many parking lots and this is what you get.

Thank you for being here! Two bus issues from Monday 7/6: 12:52pm: Bus 80 in Jersey City 25204 did not have a working tap-to-pay reader ($$$) 1:17pm: Bus 87 in Jersey City 5718 did not have a working right-side digital sign (I was running for the bus and couldn't figure out which one it was)

Oh huh, didn't realize that. So the Goethals is faster, but when it is backed up, it temporarily makes the I-78 bridge faster. The reverse trip, which has no traffic right now, definitely prefers the Goethals. /

July 4th in Jersey City last night: 1. Cars ruin cities. Every year, amidst otherwise good vibes, the drivers go absolutely feral and destroy downtown Jersey City driving around too late looking for fireworks parking that doesn't exist. 2. New motorcycle unit is really handy on nights like this. /

Jersey City lies in the shadow of Lady Liberty and is extremely diverse. And yet, there is all too common a disgusting nativist and xenophobic streak here in local politics. Thankfully, I think the tide is turning.

Why is a nice new 16th St Jersey City public park locked on July 3? Our city staff are constantly doing BS like this. If personnel take a day off, they should have a backup plan. Or at least not lock the park the night before. @eleanalittle.bsky.social @jerseycitynj.bsky.social

These homes have *3* parking spots per unit. Someone is renting out a spot for $275 / month. Meanwhile, in front of those homes with 3 parking spots is city-permitted street parking for $1.67 / month. Oh, but it's not always easy to street park? Yes, because it's only $1.67 / month!!

👏🚌 Great job Hoboken. Wish Jersey City public comms wasn’t so car-brained about road closures and actually explained bus detours. All the downtown buses were running down Grove St due to the World Cup stuff. Scared of car drivers getting angry at any change, while bus riders are chopped liver.

I am stuck on how smug and confident Jersey City Reddit can be while being *completely* and *obviously* wrong. Someone sensibly comments that trucks should have front blindspot mirrors. 80 upvotes for a comment that says it's not possible?! Easily disproven with a link directly to product examples.

Spotted a nice new pro-social urbanism trend on the Upper West Side. Several wealthy buildings putting out planters for the sidewalk, with even seating. Seating in particular has generally been unthinkable in recent decades. Good that people think it's possible to privately invest in public space.

New Jersey needs to be driving less and walking, biking, and using transit more. I can appreciate the complaints about an industrial user of electricity not paying their own way, but if people actually care about the environment, the number one source of pollution here by far is from burning oil.

Slopulist pandering title, though the article is actually decent on the facts. Crashes and deaths and the costs of cars and the costs of car repairs are up. I think NJ would actually prefer bad drivers pay much more rather than everyone pay more together. But it's prohibited.

The local attempts to stop data centers are extremely ineffective when data center usage isn't local. Virginia is very happy to build data centers, take the tax revenue, and raise electricity prices on NJ, both in the PJM region. Data travels medium distances very well, at very high speeds. /

The biking demand is there. 8:40am completely empty Citibike dock, Brunswick & Newark. Jersey City needs to make Citibike do a better job with managing demand on this side of the river with angel points and manually moving overflow bikes back to stations that need them. @eleanalittle.bsky.social
