Yesterday Ukrainian Jersey City held their 6th annual Vyshyvanka 5k Run/Walk! This is the third year I’ve run in it, and it keeps getting bigger and better every year. This year’s event raised over $11,000 to fund ambulances to provide lifesaving medical care in Ukraine. 💛

My statement on the crash that occurred this morning.

A car struck a pedestrian this morning near Van Vorst Park. The pedestrian is in critical condition. This is a tragedy, and one that we see far too often in Jersey City. Too many people have been hurt or killed just trying to cross the street, and we are not doing enough to stop it.

The city needs real traffic calming now, especially near our parks and schools. I’ll be pushing the administration to fast-track improvements to this part of the city before another one of our neighbors is hit by a car. Traffic violence like this is preventable with the right policies and infrastructure in place.

My office was sent this video of masked ICE agents grabbing someone off the street on 2nd St between Erie St. & Jersey Ave. in Ward E. We have also been made aware of additional ICE sightings and abductions in Jersey City today, and have alerted Public Safety. ICE may be targeting delivery cyclists.

I’m joining @HudCoStreets this Wednesday to canvass for A Better Light Rail! They’re calling for more frequent service, with trains running every 10 minutes, and for extensions to Bayfront AND Bergen County, so the Hudson Bergen Light Rail can finally live up to its name.

People are noticing our newly-launched Traffic Enforcement Unit 👀 The Traffic Enforcement Unit is not only keeping residents safe, but generating revenue to solve our financial crisis. Many of these dangerous drivers are non-residents who use our streets as a cut-through.

We’ve been notified the sewer collapse at 10th & Erie requires emergency replacement of 100 ft of pipe. JCMUA workers will be on site around the clock working. As of now, no service interruptions are expected. Work is tentatively expected to be completed early Saturday afternoon.
