I predict we'll need gyms for our brains too, once Al

It's worth remembering (esp. re: Cornell): when a network of pundits + think tank reps chose to deride "safe spaces" on college campuses, they by default derided the idea that universities should better protect vulnerable student groups from assaults + fully investigate their credible reports. 1/2

"But perhaps most challenging of all, such proposals would require reimagining what AI is. It would require moving away from misleading anthropomorphic metaphors & narratives of inevitability, leaving behind “rogue AI agents” & embracing our own human agency to decide what we want AI to do for us."

The NYT can actually afford to have Douthat leave when it comes to their “coverage” of “wokeism” on college campuses. Their weekly average would go from something like 87 to 85 columns on that topic.

The most destructive effects of the right's reinvigorated culture war on higher ed won't really be felt at Columbia, Oberlin, or other elite private universities, or at least not immediately. Rather, right-wing legislatures will use these reports as "evidence" to justify defunding public higher ed.

Delightful ‘Dancing Dogs’ figurine. Blackware ceramic, 200 BC - 200 AD. Comala, Late Formative Period. Colima, West Mexico. 📷 Princeton University Art Museum artmuseum.princeton.edu/art/collecti... #Archaeology
This Princeton University Art Museum photo shows a blackware ceramic figurine of two stylised dogs which look as if they are dancing. They are standing upright on their hind legs, facing each other, their front legs raised, with paws resting against each other. The dog on the left has its face turned towards the viewer, with snout slightly raised and seeming to smile. The dog on the right, rests its raised snout against the cheek of its partner. The figures are rounded and smooth with short legs, pointed snouts, pointed ears, and short curved tails. Their bodies are decorated with incised lines, which according to the museum, represent folds of skin, indicating that these canines are Mexican hairless dogs.

Museum info:
“Comala, Late Formative Period, 200 BC –200 AD, Colima, West Mexico, Mexico, Mesoamerica, Dancing dogs. Blackware ceramic; 12.6 x 13.5 x 7.5 cm. Museum purchase (Object Number y1985-49)”
