This shit is terrible and getting worse. Japan just upped their fees by a huge margin. Including permant residency going up 20x overnight. Literally. October 1st. Chiba retaliated going up 7x for Japanese citizens. There are no winners in this game of chicken. Only loaers.

My major emotion on 9/11 was relief. Anger/horror, but it wasn't what I initially thought it was. Because my roommate woke me up between the two tower hits (we watched the second live) screaming about invasion and world war three. Until we got that TV turned on, I thought everyone was going to die.

Obviously this isn't to downplay how terrible 9/11 was within its context as a massive terrorist attack with commercial airliners. It was horrific. But it was NOT a military strike backed by a nuclear armed power. And as a child, that was what I was told to fear.

Not a counter point, but a kind of point addition: you can't have a war on terrorism either. Because terrorism is an idea inasmuch as it is a collection of actual acts once could place under it. As long as someone has some means to frighten others for political purposes, terrorism will always exist.
