Claude Code has been much less useful to me lately compared to just a few weeks ago. I'm not sure if it's just something cognitive or if they actually nerfed the model, but I'm starting to consider alternatives.

LLM-generated code is objectively great. However, in a new project, it initially lacks... taste. You often notice this in how file get structured. I say 'initially' because agents excel at recognizing patterns: if your codebase has taste, agents have taste.

I don't think it is a good sign if I decide to go and get a coffee each time Claude Code decides to stop working

This looks cool; great to give people more expressive spaces to publish and foster communities… HOWEVER: Substack is not and never will be "your corner of the internet" — it's a walled garden: no API, opaque algo, a platform you don't own In the Atmosphere we build on open data + open networks ✨

From a director at a more “traditional” company: “We’re starting to rename 2-pizza teams to 1-pizza teams. With AI large teams just no longer make sense and slows things down.” Teams are getting smaller in most places - even here

My team and I are building features for a large app as contractors. We use Claude Code for our work, and the internal team reviews it using Gemini CLI. It's pretty incredible to watch the review process become a conversation between AI agents.

tried to get Claude Code to help me prioritize work and clean up my todo list, but there wasn’t enough context in the todo list alone, so I started writing daily notes, and it turns out that was the thing I actually needed to start doing. rare win for the ol’ noggin

Adding RN libraries without native Expo support is usually a nightmare. The worst part is the Config Plugin debugging loop: change, build, fail, repeat. I ran Claude with `--dangerously-skip-permissions` and tasked it with creating a working plugin for `react-native-plaid-link-sdk` (Expo 54).

I took the 165 NJT bus from PA to Guttenberg today for a holiday party. This was the view. I think if you showed the men who built the NYC subway the city their creation enabled, they’d be overcome w/ emotion. But if you told them how little we’ve expanded it since—they’d beat us to death w/ clubs.

the secret to creating something interesting with LLMs is in flexing your curatorial muscle. once you get into that groove, it's really unlike any technology or workflow from before. the LLM output is an exponent of your vision and curatorial ability (technical judgement is also a form of curation)

Loving the new components! The updates to the theming section look great, too. It's crazy how easy this platform brings changes. I feel like every time I step away for a week, I come back to something better.

I really enjoy watching those content creators who travel by bike from the West to the East. It's fascinating to see them applying for visas at each border. It makes you realize, however, that this is a privilege almost exclusive to Westerners.

Things are not useful when they don't solve a problem. This feels to me like the case for most AI agents. Most of the time, they are simply a new interface to an old problem which already has valid ways to be solved.

Part of the reason why I’m so insistent about folks understanding AI capabilities is that they’re here to stay and we need to start thinking about what to do in such a world. Putting the genie back in the bottle is a pleasant fantasy that delays serious reckoning

Man, I love Zed. It's such an awesome editor. My only problem is GitHub Copilot just won't work right. It'll just stop thinking out of nowhere. On VSCode, it's perfect! So, I always have to fall back on Claude Code or the Gemini CLI to get any AI stuff done in Zed.

a software package registry on atproto would actually be so good qualify things as you need: the installed name, the verified project DNS (kinda like Java), the publishing DID, the signed package record - or *some combination* of the above

I got FC26 for Switch 2. It had been a couple of years since I last played FIFA (on PS5), and honestly, I don't remember that version being much better than how this one runs on the Switch 2. It's definitely playable and enjoyable.

This is a cult. Not the type of personalist high control cult that is popular in the public imagination, but more akin to a mystery cult (these are all around us today). A cult of pivoting your business from AI-sandals to drug testing.
Christine’s P(doom) is “honestly … 5 to 15 percent,” but for now she and a close friend share a light-filled room and their days are filled with stimulating people, like the guy building a “rizz master app,” who “actually gives the most insightful advice,” and Carsten, a Swiss German 27-year-old who was designing AI-involved sandals but recently pivoted to drug testing. “Do you understand Carsten’s?” Christine asks Julia. “He’s insane. He’s so cool. He basically wants to do like virtual cell modeling … like for drug testing.” Downstairs, in the shared kitchen next to an Instapot, I meet Carsten in his AI sandals. His P(doom) is a slightly sunnier 5 to 10 percent, though he also thinks people should stop producing apocalyptic scenarios that eventually become training data for the AI itself. He enjoys talking to Christine and Julia so much he sometimes brings a timer into their room and limits himself to five minutes of human connection before returning to his start-up.
