Umbrella crab! Cryptolithodes sitchensis.

A small flat, smooth, red, crab testing on a hand its eyes are visible but no legs.

The underside of the same crab, all legs and now you can see that the shell, which is white on this side, extends well beyond the legs.

The same crab in a tidepool, no real features are visible and it looks more orange underwater.

Since May I presented in two conferences (with @thefsbi.bsky.social last week), sailed on two research cruises, and (somewhere among all this) passed my PhD confirmation. Looking forwards to some holiday this week, but I'm very excited and intellectually stimulated by how well the project is going!
