TIL about this little guy called a NOOLBENGER. A tiny marsupial who lives in Southwest Australia. Look at that snoot!

The image is of a four panel comic.
In the first panel we see Sarah, the protagonist, next to a stick figure labeled “AI”. The stick figure says, “my outputs look just like yours now.”
The second panel zooms in on Sarah’s face. Above her we see text reading “I think”.
The third panel zooms in closer on Sarah’s face. Text above her reads “you missed”.
The fourth panel shows Sarah drawing happily in a sunlit room. The text above her reads “the point”.

Happy equinox! For me, this is the time when the year is handed over to the kinder forces—quieter days, dimmer lights, crisper air, and wakened spirits. My thoughts and body just feel *better*. Autumn souls, it was a trying time to get here, but we made it! 🍁 🍂 🎃

Just wanted to shoutout the scientists, artists, writers, and kind, thoughtful nature people these days. The world isn’t just enshittifying products—it’s enshittifying our minds, hearts, and ability to think critically. I really appreciate those who stand up for an ethical, decent existence.

My perennial conundrum: working on a book that has room for 10-ish animals, when the list I've created includes more than 40. Every time I cross someone off, I feel their cries of "am I not GOOD ENOUGH for this book?!" So yeah, please keep buying books about animals so I can keep making them!

We need to start recognizing more how Gen AI is directly screwing with our sense of wonder and respect of nature. Every dumb pic of some yassified BS creature pollutes what’s REAL- both environmentally and psychologically. Some ppl are ogling birds with glass feathers while real ones go extinct.

🚨Odyssey spoiler alert for fellow animal people🚨 There’s a lot of dog violence. I realize this is a creative choice people often make to showcase men & violence and despicable character, etc. If you’re someone who viscerally nopes when you see or hear an injured animal — yeah, be warned.💕

Hey, thanks @pwkidsbookshelf.bsky.social!! It’s time for magical beasties! 😎 Aubrey acquired my very first books more than a decade ago! Can’t wait for you to see the magic we’ve cooked up in this new series.
Headshots of Jess Keating and Maike Plenzke, with a deal announcement:

Aubrey Poole at Literati has acquired world rights to A Tale of Two Tails, first in the Magical Creatures Clubhouse chapter book series by Jess Keating (l.), illustrated by Maike Plenzke, which follows three kids as they stumble upon a magical forest
clubhouse that serves as a portal to wild adventures and even wilder mythical beasts. In this debut installment, the trio must uncover the clubhouse's secrets in order to return a stranded, shapeshifting kitsune to its mother before its magic fades forever. Publication is planned for spring 2027; Kathleen Rushall at Andrea Brown Literary Agency represented the author, and Alex Gehringer at the Bright Agency represented the illustrator.

It’s World Oceans Day! I’ve got some books for that. 💙 I've always thought the oceans are just like women - deep, vast, powerful, multifaceted, and (most importantly), completely underestimated in most ways. Grab any at your fave bookseller! #WorldOceansDay
Three ocean themed books written by Jess Keating. Shark Lady, featuring a blue cover with a scuba, diving woman and a shark. Ocean Speaks, featuring a woman floating in an ocean scape. The Girl Who Built an Ocean, featuring a woman with a notebook and pen sitting amongst a lush underwater ocean scene. The text beside the books reads three books for world ocean day.

It's also a good time to note that different kids need different books, and by even mildly insinuating that what they love isn't "good", they will interpret that to mean *they* are not good. A good book is one a kid loves to read. Nobody needs more shame heaped upon them - whether writer OR reader.

I mean, on the upside, kidlit (once again) has a great opportunity to decide and stand for up for what we value, and how we want to show up in the industry - and the world. We certainly didn't NEED it. But, you know. It IS what we do. Kids deserve all sorts of great books. So let's make them.

A little thing I do on Earth Day is try to envision all of the animals that were born on the same day as me and send them all a little hug. We’ve all been growing along together. If we all do this, every animal would be covered. 💙 #EarthDay
