Also some overt anti-Arab sentiment from a coworker who didn’t realize I was part Arab. At that point our two desks were the only ones in that area of the building, so it was really hard to disengage if he started talking.

It was an abrupt transition from a (nearly gender balanced) engineering school to suddenly be cognizant of being literally the only woman in the room at 19. Things never got full-on awful but there were a handful of other incidents.

My 1st tech internship the only other woman was on medical leave, and I had barely started when we had an all-hands to do some training webinar. The CEO got bored partway through and started saying things to the woman trainer like “take off your shirt.” He was on mute/no video, but I could hear him.
