I understand that funding bodies want to go all in on AI as the shiny new innovation thing. But if all the grants start going to AI at the expense of everything else then the research sector is going to end up looking like a farm with dozens of threshers hacking away in a field with no wheat.

This graph went terribly wrong, but someone pointed out it looked like Patrick from SpongeBob, so now we're here.
An attempt to plot relative abundance of four clusters of bacteria over time. Somehow the data were warped to look like blobs in a lava lamp. In the lower right corner, we see a blob shaped like Patrick's head that I drew some eyes and a mouth on. The likeness is approximately correct.

When utilized in literature review, LLMs consistently 1. fail to mention female authors in female-led literatures, 2. insist that men are more influential or more heavily cited when this is contradicted by objective citation counts, and 3. attribute women’s work to hallucinated male scholars.

The COPILOT function comes with a couple of limitations, as it can't access information outside your spreadsheet, and you can only use it to calculate 100 functions every 10 minutes. Microsoft also warns against using the Al function for numerical calculations or in "high-stakes scenarios" with legal, regulatory, and compliance implications, as
COPILOT "can give incorrect responses."
It's rolling out now to users on Windows and Mac in the Beta Channel with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Microsoft plans on refining this feature in the future by upgrading the function's underlying model and potentially adding support for web access.
