Victims of image-based abuse should be reassured that, whilst the police ought to be doing more, they should still report their abuse to the Revenge Porn Helpline who can help and support them.

I spoke to @channel4news.bsky.social about the new super-complaint into systemic failings by the police to investigate image-based abuse. Overwhelmingly targeting women, perpetrators of image-based abuse often also abuse women offline, and it must be taken seriously. lnkd.in/p/ex76ANH2

No one is above the law. No matter how rich they are. No matter how powerful they are. The equal protection of the laws is a founding principle in the 14th Amendment, as it is in the Magna Carta.

I made a journey from the UK to New York, nearly 3,400 miles, to testify. But SpaceXAI couldn’t be bothered to make a trip of twenty minutes or four subway stops from their Manhattan offices to be there. What an insult to victims.

The evidence in my case suggests that Grok was not built with sufficient safety in its design. It was not built to address consent of those subjected to sexualised content. To the contrary, evidence in my claim suggests Grok added sexualised content without any user prompting.

This underlines the importance of specialist hospital-based independent domestic violence advisors to support victims who disclose, trauma-informed training for health professionals, and why the Health Secretary is right to call VAWG a public health crisis.

This first stage of the rollout will help to train GPs and their staff to recognise the signs of abuse, ask sensitively and provide them with extra specialist support in the community to ensure their patients get a response which helps them to heal.

Jess Asato MP @jessasatomp.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Many survivors I’ve spoken to say they wish someone had asked them about what they were experiencing rather than treating the symptoms instead of the cause of their abuse. We must move away from responses like “we only do bones here” to one which is proactive in tackling abuse.

As the DHSC’s VAWG Adviser, I’ve been proud to work on Steps to Safety - a ground-breaking programme which will ensure more victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence feel safe to disclose to their GPs in the knowledge that they will be referred swiftly to specialist support.

Jess Asato MP @jessasatomp.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Absolutely brilliant to hear Yvette Cooper call violence against women and girls an “epidemic” and for it to be formally treated as a “public health” crisis. Alongside the roll out of Steps to Safety to GPs this represents a clear commitment to tackling VAWG.

After years of losing youth provision, I want young people in North Lowestoft to once again have a dedicated space of their own - somewhere to meet, take part in activities, discover new opportunities and access support when they want it.
150
Jess Asato MP @jessasatomp.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
And we now have an opportunity to see that approach make a real difference locally. East Suffolk has been selected for the next phase of the Government’s Youth Hub rollout, and I’m campaigning for North Lowestoft to be its home.
110
Jess Asato MP @jessasatomp.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Because cutting preventative support doesn’t necessarily save money - when needs aren’t addressed early, they can become more complex and more costly to meet later on. That’s why investing earlier is not only better for people and communities, but can deliver better value for taxpayers too.
110
Jess Asato MP @jessasatomp.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
I’m proud that this Labour Government is taking a different approach: investing in our NHS and councils, rebuilding public services and recognising the value of investing for the long term.
120
Jess Asato MP @jessasatomp.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Under the Conservatives, early intervention was stripped back across local government. Here in Suffolk, we saw that approach first-hand as youth services were cut by the then Conservative-run County Council and youth centres disappeared from our communities.
110
Jess Asato MP @jessasatomp.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
For too long, short-term cuts to public services have meant support being lost from our communities.

Intense argument breaks out over AI glasses
YouTube video by LBC

Jess Asato MP @jessasatomp.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
We can hold people responsible for abusing technology while also expecting the companies developing it to design products with safety in mind.
152
Jess Asato MP @jessasatomp.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Of course this technology can have real benefits. But we need a serious conversation about safety by design, and why we don’t expect the same standards of product safety from new technology that we would elsewhere.
120
Jess Asato MP @jessasatomp.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
These glasses aren’t the same as simply holding up a phone to record someone. They allow people to film far more discreetly, and products are already available which can conceal the small light intended to show when the glasses are recording.
130
Jess Asato MP @jessasatomp.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
New technology shouldn’t come at the expense of women’s safety. On @lbc.co.uk Cross Question with Iain Dale last week, we discussed Meta’s AI glasses and growing concerns about their use to covertly film and harass women in public.

I look forward to being a Member of the Babies Bill Committee and helping to pass this vital piece of legislation.
130
Jess Asato MP @jessasatomp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
I’ve seen at Kirkley Best Start family hub here in Lowestoft just how transformative the right support can be for parents and their babies. This is our opportunity to make sure improving babies’ lives is a commitment that lasts from one government to the next.
120
Jess Asato MP @jessasatomp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
If we are serious about changing inequalities like this, I believe the Bill should set out specific outcomes that governments must improve – putting that responsibility into law rather than allowing future governments to set their own measures.
110
Jess Asato MP @jessasatomp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
But I want to see the Bill go further. Babies in the most deprived parts of the country are more than twice as likely to die as those in the least deprived.
110
Jess Asato MP @jessasatomp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
The Bill builds on work going back decades, including Sure Start, pioneered by the late Tessa Jowell – who I was incredibly proud to work for – and the growing evidence about just how important the first years of a child’s life are.
110
Jess Asato MP @jessasatomp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Every baby deserves the best possible start in life. I recently spoke in Parliament in support of a new cross-party Bill aimed at improving support and outcomes for babies and young children, and making sure governments are held accountable for progress.

Jess Asato MP @jessasatomp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
These are complex questions, but they are too important to leave to technology companies alone. Government, Parliament and the public all need to be part of the conversation. If you would like to read more, please visit controlai.org

And as the infrastructure behind AI expands, including through new data centres, local communities must have a voice. The benefits of this technology cannot come at their expense.
110
Jess Asato MP @jessasatomp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
That means looking seriously at the risks posed by the development of superintelligent AI, while also putting proper regulation in place for the AI systems already becoming part of our everyday lives.

Jess Asato MP @jessasatomp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
AI has enormous potential to improve our lives, but we cannot afford to ignore the very serious warnings about where its development could lead. I spoke to BBC Radio 4's Today Programme about why I believe we need stronger action to make sure AI develops safely and responsibly.
