DoorDash spent $1.4mn trying to stop Zohran Mamdani from becoming mayor. This week's historic $131.5mn enforcement action against DoorDash for underpaying NYC delivery workers shows why. Yet another reminder that the only thing that can beat organized money is organized people.

DoorDash Spent $1.4 Million Trying to Stop Mamdani From Becoming Mayor. Now We Know Why.
In a wage-theft settlement, DoorDash now has to pay its workers around 100 times what it spent trying to beat Zohran Mamdani.

Good article, but there’s one understated piece: higher land use of organic ag means that if we shift toward organic at current consumption patterns, more natural ecosystems need to be cleared for farming, causing carbon losses, making total GHG emissions of organic usually higher vs. conventional.

🧵CO₂ removal (CDR) is back in the news, but just because the UNEP report says we need CDR, it doesn't mean we'll have CDR. Many challenges will take decades of research and negotiation to solve. Here are some examples: Technological: We currently don't have any durable CDR method that scales.

This is also what I say when people ask “how do you work on something so depressing?” 2.1C and 2.9C are both “failures” of the Paris Agreement, but one has vastly less death, poverty, and disease. It’s not pass fail. Every ton of CO2 matters. Ditto for adaptation. Need both. It all counts.

My theory has long been that this framing is at the center of why the climate movement (broadly) has spectacularly failed to engage seriously with climate adaptation/ emergency management reform. Denying adaptation in favor of mitigation is getting people killed.
