A Kingfisher has chosen your feed for reasons known only to Kingfishers. Today is a good day.
A Kingfisher perches on a slender branch above still water, its vivid blue feathers and rich orange chest glowing in the sunlight. Looking towards the camera, it appears mildly curious.

The thick darkness Of a mole-blind morning. Feet slip on gravel and tiredness. Racing clouds lower themselves To the earth in rain. No moon or stars, Just waterlogged sky And the wind among the alders. But that is alright, For I have Stars enough And windsong among alders. #naturepoetry #night

A bit of silence, folding on ears, the mitten effect of mountains. A bit of silence, cloud-forming lungs, exhales rain rather than rants. A bit of silence, kneaded into sleep, twisted through ligaments, scooped for soup. A bit of soul silence, to cure a bit of the unheard loud. #poetry #silence

Dew wet. The ducks are all Around the boats. Robin song among old branches. Mushrooms gently shoulder Leaf mould and new growth green. A heron lands and then Fades out of sight Into the autumnal landscape. #DailyNature #naturepoetry #ukcanals #autumn
Two creamy mushrooms lie half hidden beneath last year's fallen leaves and new growth green. Brush aside the crisp dried leaves to feel their domed surfaces. Feel how smooth they are, firm yet soft to your touch. Without blemish, perfect, in every way.

The US recently ruled that clean drinking water is NOT a fundamental right for their citizens... But is it simply an Earthly right? Does water itself not have the right to be clean? Do animals not have the right to access clean environments or drinkable resources? #Environmentalism

Old summer light. With each gust of wind, The hiss of last night's rain Still falls from the oak's Gnarled fingers. The canal holds the sky close, Waiting for the moorhens to hatch. My legs are wet from the long grass. #DailyNature #ukcanals #poetry #nature #summer
Feel the dappled warmth of a morning sun. The hiss you hear is last night's rain, held in the leafy fingers of the oak that leans over us. The ground beneath us is soft. The smell is wet earth and stirred water. That silence is a moorhen waiting in a nest

A blue and orange Kingfisher perching on a tree branch over the river is partially obscured by leaves. Below several Mallard are swimming on the River Wye.

Landowners release ~50million pheasants a year into the countryside. It’s long past time this was regulated, such as through a stringent licensing regime. The government announced they’d explore licensing earlier this year; this piece is a useful update: www.theguardian.com/food/2026/au...

New licensing for game shoots could stop poisoning of birds of prey
Scheme planned for England could also curtail tradition of releasing pheasants for people to pay to shoot

A brown oak leaf, crisp from summer drought, floats on the surface of the canal. The water underneath bends to cushion it, as if the canal is carrying something so valuable and sacred.

#DailyNature A poem in progress: Beauty is a bird with no name... #NatureWriting #NaturePoetry #Birding
Beauty is a bird with no name
perched on tongue's roof,
curved in familiarity,
- are names needed for love?

Feather answer,
swooping vertigo,
shadow changing colour,
sun-silhouette blurring.

This moment is not for knowing.

Their siren call, not for notation:
why conduct a master?
Allow ears to ripple,
eyes to blink,
mind to absorb.

Knowledge is the collected
Beauty, simply is.
