I feel crazy. Why why why are we using weird, awful looking genAI images for the digital menu when you already have very nice, professional, REAL photos of the food items? They also had a screen showing real, professionally made videos. So why the AI??? *screams eternally*
A dessert shop. At the top of the picture is a digital menu which displays AI generated images of menu items. At the bottom of the picture are ice cream coolers, which display real and professionally photographed/styled images of the same exact menu items.

I read an ARC of this last summer and it immediately became my second favorite book of all time (sorry, still under Catch-22 for me - but clearly not for the Pulitzers, as it wasn't even a finalist!). An amazing achievement and well deserved.

@draft2digital.bsky.social has made the inane decision to charge a yearly fee to anyone that make less than $100 per year, indicating that such accounts may be AI slop. This punishes indie publishers in particular, but it especially punishes members of a shared revenue project. (1/5)

So often in media (maybe especially horror and thrillers) they get diabetes very wrong, and it's obviously being utilized as a device to accelerate the plot/motivate characters. And they treat insulin as if it does the opposite and highs as if they were lows. Crafting for Sinners gets it right 💕
Ruth was constantly battling her blood sugar, especially when funds ran low and she had to ration her insulin--then her blood sugar would hover too high, and she'd drop weight rapidly. She'd become an expert at dosing, at rationing, at knowing the smallest amount she could inject without going into ketoacidosis and having to trek to the ER. High blood sugar wouldn't kill her—at least not imminently, not like the lows, She lived by the adage, the phrase drilled into her head by every doctor since diagnosis: better to be high than low. But sometimes she pushed it too far, even if out of necessity.

A princess desperate to win back the prince who broke her heart follows him to his kingdom's prestigious military academy—and in doing so, falls in love, saves the realm, and continues to look fabulous in this delightful debut fantasy.

Domhnall and Clía are an ideal match—or so everyone says. They are prince and princess of neighboring kingdoms. An alliance the gods will smile on. Until Domhnall ruins everything by refusing to propose.

Heartbroken but determined, Clía makes the perfect plan: Follow Domhnall to Caisleán Cósta, the military academy he’s attending. Show she can protect her kingdom. Secure the betrothal. Sure, the castle has a brutal reputation. But how hard can dueling really be?

Warrior Ronan promised himself he’d never lose his focus. He fought and sacrificed for his place at Caisleán Cósta, and he has no time for blonde princesses who waltz into arenas like they’re attending a ball. Even if she and her otter-like pet are…well, cute.

He doesn’t want to be intrigued by Clía. But her hunger to prove herself is something he understands. He tells himself there’s no harm training her. Even if his heart does race around her. Even if Domhnall is his best friend.

But as they say, love is a battlefield—and unfortunately for them all, a very real war is looming on the horizon. It’s a fight that will threaten all their kingdoms…and test all their hearts.A photo of the book, "Vagabond" by Tim Curry sitting on the floor of the bookstore.

This memoir is a celebration of Tim Curry's life’s work, and a testament to his profound impact on the entertainment industry as we know it today.

There are few stars in Hollywood today that can boast the kind of resume Tony award-nominated actor Tim Curry has built over the past five decades. From his breakout role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show to his iconic depiction as the sadistic clown Pennywise in It to his critically acclaimed role as the original King Arthur in both the Broadway and West End versions of Spamalot, Curry redefined what it meant to be a “character actor,” portraying heroes and villains alike with complexity, nuance, and a genuine understanding of human darkness.

Now, in his memoir, Curry takes readers behind-the-scenes of his rise to fame from his early beginnings as a military brat to his formative years in boarding school and university, to the moment when he hit the stage for the first time. He goes in-depth about what it was like to work on some of the most emblematic works of the 20th century, constantly switching between a camera and a live audience. He also explores the voicework that defined his later career and provided him with a chance to pivot after surviving a catastrophic stroke in 2012 that nearly took his life.

With the upcoming 50th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and the 40th anniversary of Clue, there’s never been a better time for Tim to share his story with the world.A photo of the book, "Crafting for Sinners" by Jenny Kiefer in front of the horror bookshelf.

Ruth is trapped. She’s stuck in her small, religious hometown of Kill Devil, Kentucky, stuck in the closet, and stuck living paycheck to paycheck. After her manager finds out that she lives with her girlfriend, Ruth is fired from her job at New Creations—a craft store owned by the church that dominates life in Kill Devil.

In an act of revenge, Ruth attempts to shoplift some yarn but is caught red-handed. Instead of calling the police, the employees lock her in the store—and attack her. As Ruth fights for her life using only the crafting supplies at hand, she plunges deeper into the tangled web of the New Creationists, who are hiding a terrible secret that threatens not only her but the entire town.

Urgent, scathing, and utterly original, Crafting for Sinners cements Kiefer’s status as a dazzling new star in horror.A photo of a hand holding the book, "Ring Shout" by P. Djèlí Clark in front of a bookshelf.

Nebula, Locus, and Alex Award-winner P. Djèlí Clark returns with Ring Shout, a dark fantasy historical novella that gives a supernatural twist to the Ku Klux Klan's reign of terror

“A fantastical, brutal and thrilling triumph of the imagination...Clark’s combination of historical and political reimagining is cathartic, exhilarating and fresh.” —The New York Times

IN AMERICA, DEMONS WEAR WHITE HOODS.

In 1915, The Birth of a Nation cast a spell across America, swelling the Klan's ranks and drinking deep from the darkest thoughts of white folk. All across the nation they ride, spreading fear and violence among the vulnerable. They plan to bring Hell to Earth. But even Ku Kluxes can die.

Standing in their way is Maryse Boudreaux and her fellow resistance fighters, a foul-mouthed sharpshooter and a Harlem Hellfighter. Armed with blade, bullet, and bomb, they hunt their hunters and send the Klan's demons straight to Hell. But something awful's brewing in Macon, and the war on Hell is about to heat up.

Can Maryse stop the Klan before it ends the world?

Went on an absolute tear in the library & emerged with five books. I'm about to settle in with Mr. Moo, a bit of Malbec, and Jenny Kiefer's Crafting for Sinners... 🐈‍⬛🍷📚
I'm holding up the novel Crafting for Sinners by Jenny Kiefer. The center of the cover features an embroidery of praying hands with threads hanging down from the wrists (it's a real piece of embroidery art created by a friend of the author), and the title is written in red all-caps that look handwritten & a bit hectic, arched around the praying hands. Jenny Kiefer's name is in the same font but blue, across the bottom of the cover. In the background, an Xmas tree w/multicolored lights.

Book stack(from top to bottom): Dear Stupid Penpal, Feeding the Wheel, Crafting for Sinners, Feast While You Can, Come Closer, Corpses, Fools, and Monsters, A Game in Yellow, The Buffalo Hunter Hunter, Angel Down, A Physical Education, We Love You, Bunny, Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zeng.
