Despair is when, after three classroom observations by executive-level administrators, your sole piece of feedback is that you should not allow your advanced English students to do any task for more than two minutes without interruption.

That exchange re: Parfrey is worth a closer look, IMO. Doug's historical and ongoing favoritism for the "free speech" of white supremacists - here including Augustus Sol Invictus - is a part of TST history that its veteran members prefer to pretend doesn't exist when marketing it as an LGBT+ refuge

R.I.P. essayist, author, publisher, cultural engineer, collaborator, and curator of The Satanic Temple headquarters' first art exhibition, Adam Parfrey. Honored to have known him.

Parfrey was deep in fascist circles and was one of the most pernicious figures who helped inject those politics into ‘80s and ‘90s counterculture.

He was also friends with Gore Vidal, subscribed to some troublesome conspiracy theories, and was intrigued by radicalism from all sides. I think he was a man obsessed by extremes, but he was decidedly of a liberal bent in the time I knew him, these more recent years.

He was not just “intrigued” by extreme ideas but an active participant in contemporary fascist discussion circles

In any case, while I understand your concerns, TST is so fundamentally un-fascist that if a resurrected Mussolini joined us, we'd be no bit more fascist for it, he'd be fully converted from it. I think Parfrey understood & appreciated this of us. We should celebrate such cases.Lucien Greaves

in Parfrey fascists found a rare collaborator who gave them a platform & different audience. i find that extremely dangerous. it's less TST and more your own seeming tolerance for these collaborators (like Augustus) that worries me,
@LucienGreaves
. it's why i did not join TST.

you didn't 'defend' his free speech. you used your celebrity to try to force a private conference to reverse a decision about their curation. maybe you should stop yr dishonesty about what you did with the Atlanta conference. you seem like a useful idiot of fascism from here.

I'm still getting late season figs from my trees, and they're the sweetest I've had so far. The squirrels and birds aren't stalking my trees 24/7 anymore, so I can let them fully ripen. My mature trees are both honey fig varietals, and I'm really enjoying the last fruits of the year.

When I get out of my car, the summer heat on the fig leaves makes the air smell of toasted coconut. It’s glorious.

I realized that I have a lot of plants that host native caterpillars, but the only thing the adult butterflies have been eating in my garden has been the juice from split open figs. So I'm going to put in some native lantana for them.

My passion vine flowered and then was abruptly wrecked in a storm. It's come back and is budding all over again. It's also shooting up all over the garden bed. I can see how these things take over. I have milkweed planted to its side, and I think I'll put in some lantana. Butterflies everywhere!

My sunchokes, which are now taller than I am, are blooming their tiny sunflowers. They smell like chocolate. Pruning my older fig trees made them explode with growth, The trees went from low, bare branches to about 12 ft tall. I've gotten some figs, but the pests this year have gotten most of them.

Out of my pepper plants, only the Mariachi variety has produced. The leaf miners wrecked the others. I did San Marzano tomatoes in grow bags, and I'll never do that again. They kept drying out and didn't establish strong plants like last year. I got some tomatoes, but not as many as I should have.

My second year Saijo persimmon tree has a several fruits on it that are about the size of small limes now. I'm kind of shocked that the tree even flowered, much less set fruit. They should be ripe October-ish.

Jenny Green @jennygreen.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
I pruned my fig trees down to the point where I was certain I wouldn't get any figs this year, and BOW HOWDY I was wrong. The trees are now bigger and more beautiful than before I pruned. Didn't get a breba crop (since that's on the previous year's wood), but it's covered in forming main crop figs.

My milkweed plants are full of monarch caterpillars, and my passion vine has managed to leaf out again, which has brought back the gulf fritillary caterpillars. I am so excited about my wee butterfly habitat.

if a position of authority can be misused in this way, that position of authority should not exist. It's clearly not enough to simply change who is in that position, no more than praying that the next king be better than the last.

The bonus fig cutting I got last year, the Sunrise varietal, is the most vigorous cultivar I've had so far. It's in a five or six gallon pot currently, and it's got the most beautiful big clusters of leaves and nice, sturdy branches. It'll probably fruit this year.

One of my fig cuttings, the Tia Penya, started throwing roots within 48 hours. The other two look fine, the Tia is kind of crazy. It's a newer cultivar, so who knows what'll happen with it.

The garden is waking up. The passion vine has the tiniest, eensiest little leaflets at its base. I pruned my mature fig trees heavily, so they won't wake for a bit, but the young fig trees all have leaflets, and one even has a figlet. The oak trees are trying to murder me with their pollen.

I told myself I wouldn't try to propagate fig cuttings this season, but clearly I was incorrect: Bordissot Negra Rimada, Col de Dama Gegantina, and Tia Penya. I'm pondering putting in a black elderberry somewhere, but I'm not sure if I have the space.

It's not quite wake-up-the-garden-time in Houston (the garden never quite goes to sleep here, either), but I'm plotting to grow some sunchokes this year. I'm putting in a small, dedicated bed to contain them. I ordered a more compact cultivar named Supernova.

No amount of "correct" behavior will keep a fascist from lashing out, just like no amount of submission will keep a domestic abuser from abusing. It's who they are. They will make any excuse, or they won't make an excuse and just do it anyway.

If I hadn't already left The Satanic Temple, this would have led to that same outcome. It's great that they acknowledge that the book has many flaws. It's fucking disgusting that they are claiming it as an "original Primary Text of [their] religion."
A post from The Satanic Temple's Satanic Ministry account advertising Minister Satanic Fragment leading a service about noted transphobe Steven Pinker's book, The Better Angels of Our Nature, acknowledging it as problematic, but lauding it as one of two primary texts of their religion.

What does TST do that isn’t done better by someone else with the added bonus of financial transparency? No one needs to go to TST for food. Or for an abortion. You don’t need to slap a pentagram on those services.

New awareness campaign
A digital poster in the style of a World War II propaganda piece. Isolaed on a yellow background, a normal, squarish, 20-something guy with glasses is sitting working on a laptop. A ghostly figure of Hitler has his arm around the guy and is grinning and shaking a fist triumphantly looking at the laptop screen. On the lid of the laptop where an apple might otherwise be is an openAI logo, bright green, and dripping green ooze down the lid. Text on the poster, in combinations of sans-serif type and brush script reads:
Using Generative AI?
You’re prompting with Hitler!
GenAI is a Fascist Project!
Try using your brain instead
Don’t surrender your creativity to the tech billionaire’s control

PSA: Satanic Temple is led by a reactionary, borderline-fascist grifter. PLEASE do not amplify the claim that they are magically going to feed a big bunch of the WIC/SNAP folks set to go hungry. At a minimum, that's doing free PR for bad people. And it potentially gives the impacted false hope.

The thing about people showing you who they are through harm is, they do not get to claim publicly to be anyone different until they do the work of public repentance and repair. So if your dirtbag faves are "better" now, well. No they're not, not until they do that work

They're right, you know. It's insane that people still think this group is some kind of savior. No outsider is going to come and save you or anyone else. Look into your own community. Read about mutual aid. WE SAVE US. That's what Satanists do.

It’s not a surprise that The Satanic Temple couldn’t be bothered to have anything to say about all sorts of violence related to anti-Black racism, transphobia, or retaliation for pro-Palestinian speech by fed/state governments, but TST did quickly come out to say this. This is just what they are.

Now, “Lucien Greaves” *usually* has a sneering contempt for members of The Satanic Temple who expect him to denounce frivolous stuff unrelated to TST’s mission (as Misicko defines it). Just see his Substack. It would’ve been fine for him to let the Charlie Kirk death pass by, too. But he didn’t.

If you join and then leave the abusive organization that is The Satanic Temple, you risk being subjected to a smear campaign. It’s a year after I left, and I’m still being accused of theft. They won’t specify what they claim I stole, but that doesn’t stop them from repeating the allegation.

The Satanic Temple is not a leftist organization, despite what most of its “card-carrying” membership thinks. The leftists who did the work in TST exited en masse in 2024. If you look at the social media of the leadership who remained, they regularly sneer at “SJWs” and leftist activism.
