Day 15 of #31DaysOfGraves - Language "Better a wee bush than nae beild" - Scots proverb on gravestone of Robert Burns Begg, grandnephew of Scotland's national bard, in the Kirkgate Graveyard, by Loch Leven. It was the poet's motto and it means better to have a some shelter than no shelter at all.

Let's take a virtual wander inside Liberton Kirk, our #ScottishChurchOfTheWeek and have a look at its pulpit for this week's #Woodensday. The cabinet above the oak pulpit may look like an overly ornate sounding board or canopy, but it once housed the pipes for an expensive Ingram & Co organ.
A view of the wooden pulpit and chancel furnishings in Liberton Kirk. The pulpit has large Gothic traceried windows on either side and staircase leading up to it. A Cross can be seen in the centre of the cabinet that sits above.A close up of the pulpit and communion table and minister's and elders' chairs. An embroidered pulpit fall hangs from the pulpit.

Candia is Crete I have no idea if this helps at all. I am really intrigued by the Candie ruffs ( I had always thought with no context it might be a reference to colour of the ruff but perhaps not)

In a list of 'dead, absent and poor' hammermen is an entry for one who went off to fight in the Dutch wars (c.1575). He is described as 'called candy to the wars' (cannon fodder?). Has anyone come across this phrase before? @profmurdoch.bsky.social @aberjack.bsky.social @weegiegraeme.bsky.social

It would make so much more sense if more buses used the bus station! However if there are going to be all those people waiting for buses round Waverley why not put some seats and a few trees on the roof to make it a bit easier.

When I got married I was really surprised how hard it was to change my name. There are still many accounts where I have just given up the struggle Equally well I write and talk under my maiden name and still I get people correcting my name.

There was no support for me. I was told I was enabling their illness. I should be more strict and on more than one occasion that I would be reported for neglect as they missed school. They had a diagnosis. They basically slept for three years.

My friend who lives in Beauly ( this is crucial). Bought something from @barnardos.org.uk £4 delivery charge. Then they emailed her to say that since she lives outside their standard catchment area It would cost £65.83 plus vat to deliver. Pretty sure they could just post it.
