Yes, we don’t want AI generating fake research, & AI is being misused in terrible ways. But “AI” is a very broad term. What about grammar-checking tools? Machine learning models for data analysis? LLMs for qualitative analysis of large datasets? It’s a complex topic.

As someone who grew up in the 70s in San Diego, when bald eagles were threatened with extinction, I am still in awe every time I see one in my now home of Portland, OR. Today I spotted one on a cell phone tower above the car wash. Lousy cell phone photo seems fitting #birds

Judge Immergut in Oregon v Trump now: "I grant plaintiffs second motion for a TRO." Federalized Texas and California Guard to Portland is a "DIRECT CONTRAVENTION" of court's TRO from Saturday. Both on 12406 statute and Tenth Amendment grounds.

Speaking of street transformations, the new restrictions motor vehicles on Pike Place outside the market made me enjoy the place far more then my visit in 2008. The pilot project was a window of opportunity (street repair work), a common origin for street transformations.(repost with gif)
