Radiating out from the title are purple-ish digital outlines cascading outward making a tunnel effect. The doorway reaches from the cobblestone floor past the top of the book cover. It is glowing red, deep red at the top fading to washed out red at the bottom. Flanking the opening are tendrils reaching out for the person in the trench coat. The only color is from the doorway, the rest of the cover is charcoal gray. At the bottom of the book cover is the logo for this year's SPFBO finalists. The background of the image is a photo of winding wooden vines, also done in black and white.

The book cover sits in the center of the image. It shows a pale hand reaching up from the bottom of the cover. But the hand is covered in vertical cracks from which are growing a plethora of mushrooms: a collection of yellow, orange, and red chanterelles; some morels; and white death caps. The background of the cover is green with faint lines branching off from the hand like veins on a leaf. The background of the image is a close up of a group of yellow chanterelles.

The book cover sits in the center of the image. It shows a silver sword sitting against a dark gray background. The edges of the cover are a dull gold frame made to look like the edges of a stained glass window with an arched top. The background of the image is smokey-colored stone.

Update: Still can't spell filigree. Still can't spell silhouette. Though to be fair, I don't think I'd be able to spell either of those if I _wasn't_ dyslexic... - JI 🐉 #booksky #authorsky #dyslexia #stupidbrain #stupidwords

Today @kitvaria.bsky.social reviews Benedict Jacka's An Instruction in Shadow! - JI 🐉 "If you like your magic systems meaty, your politics layered, and your heroes refreshingly short on cash, this series is worth your time." fantasy-faction.com/2026/an-inst... #booksky 💙📚🪐
The book cover sits in the center of the image. It shows a red background with a muted sunburst design taking up the whole cover. Framing the edges and giving the center a diamond shape, are filigrees of golden, stylized leaves. At the top of the frame is a shield of gold with a red chevron and three keys. At the bottom is a crow with wings outspread. Amongst the rest of the design, and mirrored on each side are rubies, brown cats, silver daggers, and human femur bones. In the background, right above the crow, is the silhouette of the Tower Bridge in London. The background of the image is a blue sunburst, mirroring the book's cover.
