My heart breaks for mathematicians whose lives and careers are being destroyed by AI — and especially this PhD student, who doesn’t even know he is a poet
Kai Shaikh, a Ph.D. student in mathematics at the University of Toronto, also currently at SLMath, observed that theorems are easy to use as benchmarks, but that they capture little of the wonderment at the heart of math. "Just like a photograph of a mile marker can't provide much of the value of actually going on a hike," he said,
"it would seem to me that proofs without stories, or even stories without struggle or mystery, and first glimpses of strange beasts, are not very meaningful or valuable to us humans."

We’re standing up to protect food security and nutrition assistance programs that benefit children, seniors, and low-income families in Oregon. The Trump administration wants to “reorganize” the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, but this move would threaten programs like SNAP and WIC.
AG Rayfield takes action to protect nutrition assistance and food securityAG Rayfield and a multistate coalition are supporting a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s attempts to “reorganize” the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Oregon partners with USDA to provide life-saving nutrition assistance to children, pregnant & breastfeeding women, seniors, and low-income families through programs like SNAP, WIC, and the National School Lunch program. Gutting the national USDA infrastructure would threaten these programs and hurt Oregonians. “Nobody should have to wonder where their next meal is coming from. Programs like SNAP and WIC feed Oregon kids, seniors and families who are working hard to make ends meet. Trump calls this a reorganization, but gutting the people and systems that run these programs means people go hungry.”

Beatty's attys say defendants take the position that all communications with Trump—even in his capacity in the voluntarily assumed post of Kennedy Center chairman—are protected by executive privilege &/or presidential communications privilege. 2/2
Defendants Withheld Swaths of Relevant Information Via Executive Privilege
These concerns about the systemic deficiencies in Defendants' responses to written discovery requests—which are exemplary rather than comprehensive-are compounded by the fact that Defendants have improperly withheld swaths of material based on blanket claims of potential Executive Privilege, in ways that are plainly inappropriate.
Plaintiff intends shortly to file a motion to compel with respect to Executive Privilege.
Plaintiff briefly mentions her concerns with respect to Executive Privilege now to demonstrate how the sum of the two issues outlined in this statement has essentially left her without meaningful discovery in this important matter, absent extension of existing deadlines (in particular, briefing and resolution of summary judgment). Among other things, Defendants have instructed one witness already not to answer any questions regarding the substance of communications involving the Chairman. They have told Plaintiff's counsel that they will instruct Mr. Floca similarly not to answer any questions about conversations with the Chairman (despite relying on Mr. Floca's testimony regarding conversations with the Chairman in their summary judgment motion). Meanwhile, Defendants have asserted a blanket privilege over any written document that "mav have the effect of seeking information protected by the presidential communications privilege."

The Trump administration is trying to roll back federal limits on greenhouse gas pollution from the country’s largest power plants — and we’re pushing back. We cannot let the biggest polluters off the hook while working families pay the price.
AG Rayfield takes action to restore limits on power plant pollution AG Rayfield has filed a lawsuit to stop the Trump administration for scrapping federal limits on greenhouse gas pollution from many of the country's largest power plants. Earlier this month, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) repealed rules requiring coal- and gas-fired power plants to cut their emissions. That decision opens the door to more pollution, which means hotter summers, stronger storms, more flooding, and more wildfire smoke.“Oregonians know what a changing climate looks like. We’ve lived through the heat dome and summers where the smoke was so thick our kids couldn’t play outside. Pollution doesn’t stop at state lines, and power plants are one of the biggest sources of it. The law requires EPA to do something about that. Instead, the Trump Administration is letting the biggest polluters off the hook and leaving families to pay the price.”
