Last one for tonight. No not John Atkinson Grimshaw but a painting of Upper Westgate Wakefield (1896) by son Louis Hubbard Grimshaw (1870–1944). Like his father he produced many evening scenes lit by artificial light and moonlight. The painting is now in the collection of the Hepworth Wakefield.
Louis Hubbard Grimshaw’s Wakefield, Upper Westgate (1896) masterfully captures the atmospheric essence of late Victorian urban life. Heavily influenced by his father, John Atkinson Grimshaw, the artist employs a muted, twilight palette to evoke a sense of nostalgic isolation. Wet, glistening cobblestones reflect the warm glow of shopfronts and gas lamps, contrasting sharply with the sombre towering silhouette of the cathedral spire piercing the misty sky.

An oil painting by George Clausen depicting a hazy winter morning - a road leads away from us, upon it cart, to the right a collection of houses. The trees either side of the road are hanging onto the very last of their leaves.

Swedish artist. He is perhaps best known for his nature and animal motifs, especially in dramatic situations. He was the most important and probably most influential Swedish wildlife painter of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.[1] He also drew some sequential picture stories, making him one of the early Swedish comic creators

A brilliant and bracing read for anyone who cares about justice in the world, cares about doing better, and cares about doing it rigorously. Chad Topaz leads by example, with a rare combination of generosity, wit, and self-awareness backed up by unwavering mathematical precision.”—Eugenia Cheng, author of Unequal: The Mathematics of When Things Do and Don’t Add Up

“Finding effective solutions—especially for big, important problems like structural inequity and social injustice—requires clearly identifying and quantifying the problem. And that is exactly what Unlocking Justice does. Chad Topaz’s careful, quantitative examination and analysis of the criminal justice system isn’t written just for data nerds like me. It is essential reading to truly get to the bottom of the stubbornly persistent injustices in our law enforcement, court and penal systems, and shines a light on how to bring real, lasting change.”—Kimberly Atkins Stohr, columnist, The Boston Globe
