it looks like engage did this too (tho I never played..), but at least there the color of the arrow is a slight version for that effect — two blue arrows feels a bit more exciting than one blue arrow. but in fortune’s weave it’s just like an extra row on a boring spreadsheet….

one part of the fortune’s weave ui I really don’t like is the way the damage preview shows double attacks — it’s handy how it breaks it down into chronological rows, but it is just totally lacking in terms of the *excitement* (or dread!) you would get from seeing the blue “x2” arrow

the text log ui in new fire emblem is pretty neat! the way the currently displayed line just becomes the lowest item in the list once you open the text log is very slick (and kind of obvious in retrospect, and yet I can’t recall any other games using that approach)

something I’ve been thinking about w/ iPhone Duo on the horizon—are there any apps that look truly great in *landscape* on iPad? even great iPad apps seem to treat landscape like an afterthought (eg video apps just resize portrait ui so that a banner takes up 80% of the screen)

interesting, google ngram does corroborate that “user” has been correlated with the rise of computers (I wonder why it peaked and started falling at the beginning of the web 2 era in ~2009… maybe since it was no longer special and everyone implicitly was a user?)

I wonder how common it is to refer to people in a park as “park users” 🤔 does it predate the (now extremely commonplace) computery usage, or is it derived from it? obviously anyone who “uses” something is a “user”, but was it a common term before computers?

my goal was to level all the ARR jobs to 50 before moving on to the ARR patches — I figured this would be easy with preferred world + several exp buffs (usually getting +400% exp lol), but it still took a while! also gave up on crafters, figure I’ll do those slowly through daily supply missions
