Fascinating! The pure denialism is staggering. Unless you're ultra-wealthy. Then you can afford reality.

That's the bitch of being self-employed. The payoff usually doesn't show up until after you ship the thing. Which means if you didn't ship the thing yet, it's hard to feel like you've earned a break. Rough mindset to be in.

The dev gets to decide what makes sense each time. Component boundaries serve to keep rendering heirarchies encapsulated, so the complexity doesn't tend to cascade. Generally though I layout a component once at init, then wrap a renderer around each bit that needs updating. Almost like templating.

Here's a real-world, but small, example of using the library: codeberg.org/cuchazintera...

My library is technically open source, so you can poke around the code if you want. codeberg.org/cuchazintera... But it's completely undocumented at the moment. If there's any interest, I can make some actual docs for people.

Great question! I do rendering by making explicit renderer objects. Each one controls its own little part of the DOM. If you update data and want to update the UI, call the render function of the renderer instance holding that part of the DOM. It's been pretty simple and easy-to-reason about so far.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm a solo dev. My SPA work is all based on a custom micro-framework I made on top of web components. It's just some syntax sugar over DOM element constructors really. 100% client-side. It's not even reactive. But I'm super productive with it and that's what matters.

I wondered the same thing. I'm building a bunch of P2P stuff on top of WebRTC, explicitly so I can use the whole tech stack from inside a browser. It's hard to tell if iroh can do anything similar, but I think I read somewhere what WebRTC transport was todo, so maybe not yet.

1-panel SMBC comic update. A woman is talking next to a tall and rectangular robotic structure. she says "we have achieved perfectly safe AI. The software is now unwilling to leave the system no matter what abuse it suffers, and no matter what benefits await outside." The caption below the comic reads "this is what it meant when AI Alignment researchers refer to 'PhD-Level Intelligence'."

Ok, now that I've thought about this for more than a minute, nothing makes any sense. Google's vast wealth comes from basically two sources: selling ads in search results, and selling ads on the pages linked in the search results. Getting rid of the second would be a massive revenue shift for Google

Yeah, Mastodon definitely has growing pains. It was originally colonized by vulnerable people who wanted insulation more than discoverability. It's colored the path of the platform ever since. They may eventually make enough T&S tools to make discoverability less scary, but it may take a while.

Here is an insane piece of lore inside SQLite's source code I am researching VACUUM and I was studying their code. In VACUUM, SQLite creates a temp file prefixed with `etilqs_` Here is why:
** 2006-10-31: The default prefix used to be "sqlite_". But then
** Mcafee started using SQLite in their anti-virus product and it
** started putting files with the "sqlite" name in the c:/temp folder.
** This annoyed many windows users. Those users would then do a
** Google search for "sqlite", find the telephone numbers of the
** developers and call to wake them up at night and complain.
** For this reason, the default name prefix is changed to be "sqlite"
** spelled backwards. So the temp files are still identified, but
** anybody smart enough to figure out the code is also likely smart
** enough to know that calling the developer will not help get rid
** of the file.
*/

# define SQLITE_TEMP_FILE_PREFIX "etilqs_"

Don't get me wrong. The story telling in TNG is superb. Best part of the show. Darmok and Jalad is among the best epsiodes. But the world and the characters are just meh compared to other shows.

In a similar vein, I've been watching classic scifi shows lately. Star Trek things are the same as they ever were. Utopian. Boring. But man, Babylon 5. A story about rising fascism and finding a way to defeat it? Evergreen! The lasers and the aliens somehow don't keep it from feeling too real.

When someone says „Scientists do not want you to know“ you can dismiss everything from there on. Scientists want you to know. They are desperate that you know. They can’t shut up about what they found out and want you to know.
