Many congratulations to Anne Carson for the well-deserved Nobel Prize! This is also great news for Translation, Classics, Poetry, the breaking of generic and disciplinary boundaries, and the fact that you don't have to fit a pre-existing mould to have a brilliant, successful career.

Yesterday I recorded an excellent Optimizely webinar that was a case study for AI-assisted personalization. Just now I had AI transcribed and summarize it. I found the LLM a little shifty when it put the word hallucinations with double-quotes: "hallucinations." Do I sense a little guilt, AI?

My gym is inside my city’s community center. I realized today as I was passing through their lobby how, even with no one inside, you’d be able to tell the majority of paying members are seniors: That sign advertising for a class called “Tai Chi for Pickleball.”

A Philadelphia nun named Sister Rose Kuhn drives to a Texas immigration court weekly to sit next to unaccompanied children as young as 4 who are facing deportation hearings alone without relatives or an attorney so that they won’t have to face the judge by themselves. Heartbreaking and horrific.

In the TikTok era, apps are emerging where you can watch a movie in 90-second installments. I want in.  I plan to produce one that’s a remake of “The Graduate.” I’m imagining that scene at the pool, where the uncle gives business advice. He says, “One word: Microplastics.”
