Many things terrified me as a child but I think the whole transformation sequence in Snow White was the first thing on TV that truly scarred me.

You don't need me to tell you that Forgotten Island is awesome (it is). You need me to tell you to GO WATCH IT NOW BEFORE IT LEAVES THEATERS (screenings are already so limited in KL and PJ). It's beautiful and funny and wondrous and joyous and easily one of the best movies this year.
A scene from Forgotten Island. Jo and Raissa are basking in the setting sun at the beach, on top of a wrecked bus.

I was afraid I wouldn't appreciate a concert full of drumming, but it was more than percussion - dance, song, and lighting all combine into a beautiful theatrical experience, telling abstract stories and culture. "Drumming is a language that doesn't need words," was the theme. I found that amazing.

One of the things I did over the weekend was watch the Hands International Drumming Festival, a percussion concert where local and international performers combine traditional and modern acts into a heart-thumping, truly spectacular experience. Performing arts rock!

Looking at a long week ahead, but I had the sort of weekend that will stay with me for a long time, and hopefully power me through the next few days. For now, coffee and emails.

#Movie Forgotten Island (2026) What a special, joy-filled movie! Loved seeing our culture up there in the environment, food, casual phrases, personalities, design etc. Even heard songs I haven't thought about in years! Grateful this exists and hope more people give it a chance!

Some of my favourite resources about comics making! smallpress.scot/articles/how... I kept answering Qs or doing talks where I rec'd resources or gave out PDF guides, & wanted to make them more publicly accessible. So now they're up at @smallpress.scot 👍 Here's the pic version

I'm going to be at Melbourne International Games Week next week, bringing this International Game. If you see me (I'll be at the TGDA DevCon and at PAX Aus), ask me for a horse zine. This time none of them are cursed, so don't worry. Volume 1 is still sort of cursed though.

Ballpoint pen, watercolor, colored pencil, a little crayon, and charcoal pencil.

Our guy pulls up deep in the forest on his 2-speed bike. He’s flanked by tall dark trees and his path is blocked by a massive spider. He lets the Big Fella know it’s on. “Big Fella,” he says. “I fixed my 2-speed. You still wanna race.” Reader, you know Big Fella wants in on that action. Next slide.Against a starry night sky we see silhouettes of Big Fella and our man racing down a hill. It’s unclear in the drawing who will win but Big Fella is likely about to pull away.

i am so beyond thrilled to launch my new webcomic: PRAYERS TO THE FUTURE! it's a muslim-themed post-apocalyptic adventure about coming together to breathe life into a struggling world. the first update is now live at prayerstothefuture.com - the comic is free to read + updates every monday. ENJOY 🧿
an illustration for the launch of my (iasmin omar ata) new webcomic PRAYERS TO THE FUTURE. the main character, irfan, poses with an obsidian sword. the rest of the comics cast (a mystery for now!) is depicted in various shapes behind her. the title of the comic is written outside of a circle behind irfan, with "by iasmin omar ata" written on the underside of the circle. within the circle, a post-apocalyptic desert is shown, with a tall obisidan obelisk at the center and a giant crystal floating atop it.

Going for a grocery run after work but if I'm being honest, it's just an excuse to have dinner with the wife outside instead of my crummy cooking.

Also I might have unwittingly purchased the deluxe edition because the game came with several alternate skins unlocked. I wasted no time giving Sargon the Warrior Within outfit.

Anyway, The Lost Crown is starting off great for me because I'm in the early areas and the game said, "go East for your next objective," to which I said, "no," and went to explore Up instead, only to get eviscerated by an enemy I'm not prepared to fight. Yay to non-linear exploration!

Moving on from Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth to Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, a game I would say is made for me, being a big fan of the Sands of Time trilogy and Metroidvanias. I'm still sad from not getting a sequel to the 2008 Prince of Persia though.

Yeah I don't think I could've played them back to back either, seeing that Remake is already rather padded and with Rebirth being so bloated and massive. Good to take a break. (And all the best with the book!)

Jee Yee, Insomniac After Work @jeeyee.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
They are unfortunately massive time sinks and very clearly padded and bloated in many areas, but I am glad they exist, if anything because they feel like the most Final Fantasy game in ages.

I do wish that there were better ways for Rebirth to encourage exploration without giving me markers and towers to activate. Could a Final Fantasy-esque JRPG work with the open-world approach of Elden Ring? I'd be interested to see that.

The ending is vague and confusing (which explains why Part 3 is named Revelation) but I think it fits the running theme of predestination and fate in the FF7R series, itself a commentary on the nature of remakes. What can you change in a retelling without breaking the original story?

Finally finished Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth. I had to abandon a few chapters' worth of side-content. There was a point where the game said "you're close to the end now, so here are MORE things to do in the open world" and I felt an exhaustion settle on my shoulders. I do love this game, though.
A scene from Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth. Aerith stands on a flower field overlooking a river and distant hills. The sky above is blue. She is watching the cloud trails of the party departing to the skies.

As if not getting Coyote vs Acme was bad enough, I have a feeling we're also not likely to see a Malaysian screening of Laika's Wildwoods. No listings. No promotionals. No trailers. Nada. I'm miffed. VEXED.

Depending on what you're into, some of the interesting things I've marked (provided they don't drop out like Coyote vs Acme): - Street Fighter - Godzilla: Minus Zero - Ha-Chan, Shake Your Booty! - How To Rob A Bank Right now, Dreamwork's Forgotten Island is out and it's very well received.

An indication of how busy and chaotic the week has been: I only managed to watch last week's episodes of Daemons of the Shadow Realm and Draw This, Then Die! today. And I think I'm at least 2 weeks behind Lanterns. I'm not even going to think about my backlog.

You should watch both and just admire the creative vision amidst the gore and chaos, and also chew on the subtext and allegory that gives them more depth. Along with The End of Oak Street, it's just a really good year of movies about people running away from scary things.

Watched both Hope and Resident Evil in the same week and both are terrific (and terrifyingly) fun creature-features that thrive on putting normal people in extraordinary circumstances and breaking the tension with human moments of humor. Two gonzo, stunning works with strong creator vision.

Some of my foundational manga. Can't say they changed my life (except maybe Doraemon), but they're among my favorite works, and most of them greatly expanded my interest in manga and fiction, and the types of stories I love.
My 9Koma manga selection. They include: Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai, Doraemon, Vinland Saga, 20th Century Boys, Berserk, Goodnight Punpun, Blank Canvas: My So-Called Artists Adventure, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Yuria-Sensei to Akai Ito

The image is of a four panel comic.
In the first panel we see Sarah, the protagonist, next to a stick figure labeled “AI”. The stick figure says, “my outputs look just like yours now.”
The second panel zooms in on Sarah’s face. Above her we see text reading “I think”.
The third panel zooms in closer on Sarah’s face. Text above her reads “you missed”.
The fourth panel shows Sarah drawing happily in a sunlit room. The text above her reads “the point”.
