The best bandcamp scene reports are either ones where you have most of the context or none at all. This falls into the former category and is quite good as always: daily.bandcamp.com/lists/atlant...

According to the data, after speed cameras were removed in Toronto: - The share of drivers going 46+ in a 30 zone rose 510%. - The share of drivers going 66+ in a 50 zone rose 580% For reference: someone hit by a car going 40 km/h has a 70% survival rate, while someone hit by a car going 60 has 5%

Look at this photo. Look at where children leaving school have to enter from a blind high-fenced area into the crosswalk. Now look at the top speed cars were doing here when there were speed cameras. Now keep in mind that dangerous speeding has QUADRUPLED where speed cameras were removed.

A crosswalk at Humber Boulevard and Louvain Street is partially obstructed by fencing over a covered waterway, making it difficult to see pedestrians emerging from the fencing. A speed camera nearby was removed in November.

Lance McMillan Toronto Star
The speed camera was located by the TTC stop directly across from the school, steps away from the end of the crosswalk, where the boy was hit. In the 10-month period it was in place, the top speed ticketed was 107 km/h. Among the top 10 were two drivers ticketed for travelling at 82 km/h. The limit in the school zone is 40 km/h.

A thing I am mindful of for the Kamloops municipal election is that I have no idea how to evaluate incumbent councillors. In the Rob Ford days, I would default to Ford Nation Voting %. In hindsight that would have led me to vote for Ana Bailão if I'd moved to Davenport in 2014 instead of 2015:

You guys had that. We tanked our relations with China to arrest Meng Wanzhou for America (resulting in the lengthy detention of two Michaels who were definitely not spies) None of the US politicians/economists here care to grasp that Canadians trust China more than America because of US actions

But Canada’s new China approach is clearly in the crosshairs, as U.S. politicians increasingly want allies to mimic Washington’s China policies, including tariffs and export controls.
Article content

“They want everyone to have the same China policy,” said Manak.
Article content

Chad Bown, senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics and co-author of the newly released book, “How to Win a Trade War,” said Canada must recognize its real trade war is with China, not the U.S.
Article content

To compete with China, the North American auto industry needs to have a common approach toward China. Bown said Canada lowering its trade barriers with China would be “fundamentally inconsistent” with that approach.
