I really hope the repeated, wildly incorrect, invocations of the search-incident-to-arrest doctrine in the last couple episodes of "Furious" was commentary on how poorly cops understand the Fourth Amendment. If not . . . 😬🤬

Everything is terrible but books are good. Especially books written by real people. Talk about your books. Show us your art. Let us see the cool stuff you make. You need it but we need it too. Art helps maker and receiver get their heads above the rough, churning waters of reality. No shame in it.

You played the recorder in part to strengthen your fine motor skills and in part to introduce you to basic music theory concepts like rhythm, the C-major scale, and reading basic music notes. Your teachers wanted to make elementary music education available to all, not just the rich.

not saying anything new, but if these folks actually believed in genAI writing, they'd disclose it, tout it, and build their own audiences elsewhere and leave others be. hiding and sneaking it to markets who want no part of it doesn't prove you're good at writing. just proves you're good at fraud.

If you don't like what you're reading, STOP reading it and find something you DO like. I've launched a book or two in my time. Not every book is worth my time and effort. But a book I don't like may be a book someone else LOVES. The best part is that there are hundreds of millions of books. CHOICE!

Discworld QOTD, from Hogfather
“Who are you?”
“I . . . think my name is Bilious. I’m the . . . I’m the oh God of Hangovers.”
“There’s a God of Hangovers?”
“An oh god,” he corrected. “When people witness me, you see, they clutch their head and say, ‘Oh God . . .’ How many of you are standing here?”
“What? There’s just me!”
“Ah. Fine. Fine.”
“I’ve never heard of a God of Hangovers . . .”
“You’ve heard of Bibulous, the God of Wine? Ouch.”
“Oh, yes.”
“Big fat man, wears vine leaves round his head, always pictured with a glass in his hand . . . Ow. Well, you know why he’s so cheerful? Him and his big face? It’s because he knows it’s me that - “

“- gets the hangovers?” said Susan.

People like Kane and many many others that do care about human art and the creative process have been a beacon of hope while trying to navigate making art in this current climate.
CBS MORNINGS ON YOUTUBE (JUNE 4, 2026)

Interviewer: I read that you do not want to embrace Al.

Kane: Absolutely not.

For me the whole point of doing what I'm doing-art is a way of processing life. I don't see the value in outsourcing any element of that.

When I'm looking at someone else's project, if I see an element of the environment [where] they use generative fill or whatever to change something about the scene, it just shuts off the part of my brain that wants to know more about that world. Because I would assume if they're willing to make an arbitrary choice there, they could make an arbitrary choice with literally anything.
