This was not a study. It was a documentary based on NOTHING PUBLISHED OR PEER REVIEWED. There are no data, just assertions by a team that *to this day* refuses to disclose the source of their conclusions. It's "trust me bro" from top to bottom

No no, that's a weak claim. A strong claim would be "perhaps my grilled gruyere has a different level of consciousness than my grilled asiago."

Not to put too fine a point on it, but AFAICT no one in this thread knows (a) what they're talking about, or (b) how to fact check their unfounded assertions Anyway biologists from Charles Darwin to Donald Griffin have studied cognitive ethology

Consumption of violence is a choice; it radicalizes. In a world that thrives on instantaneous gratification, we all know why folks spend their time watching videos that produce hateful "righteous" indignation rather than doing something productive like volunteering or even talking with a neighbor

If you want to know why Jews are suspicious of you when you're just trying to be a well-meaning antizionist gentile, consider that these two things were written by the same man, Guangtian Ha, a (currently suspended) religion professor at Haverford
a passage from an article by guangtian ha that reads:

We make this call amidst growing concern about antisemitism on our campus. Questions have arisen in the context of a number of specific situations, including external influences from Lower Merion, from donors, and from some alumni who are hell-bent on defining the " ways to be Jewish. This, of course, flies in the face of thousands of years of Jewish tradition which is fundamentally based on interrogation, questioning, and truth-seeking. We take these attacks on our anti-Zionist Jewish community members seriously and we understand the real damage the state of Israel causes for the entire Jewish world when it claims to be acting on behalf of all Jews while engaging in horrific atrocities that - truth be told- mirror some of the worst stereotypes of Jews that have been a part of European racism for centuries. We will be clear: antisemitism should be unacceptable at Haverford, but the energy and consideration which some in our administration have granted these bad faith actors suggests otherwise.a passage from a court document about guangtian ha that reads:

In or about January 2026, through in or about February 2026, defendant GUANGTIAN HA, using X account "America IstLM" posted a series of threatening and harassing messages directed at Victim 1, including the following:
a. "Jew, get the fuck out of my country"
b. "Jew pig, get the fuck out of Lower Merion"
c. "If jews are so special then they should also be placed in special camps and receive special treatments"
d. "LM jews are going to have it big time, jew. Remember this. You scums have had it too easy. Goyim are taking America back, blood-guzzling demons."

I thought maybe Rav Kahana was just an odd duck who decided to learn everything about EVERYTHING by sleeping under Rav's bed, but apparently sleeping under the beds of the elders was a Whole Thing around that time, so now I no longer know what to believe

One who sleeps beneath the bed in the sukka did not fulfill his obligation, because the bed constitutes a tent that serves as a barrier between him and the roofing of the sukka. Rabbi Yehuda said: It was our custom that we would sleep beneath the bed before the Elders and they did not say anything to us to the effect that we are not fulfilling our obligation

The reason some Jews are so skeptical of criticism of Israel, (and this is explanation and not defense), is that you start with "the Israeli government is racist" and end with what the Green Party actually adopted, which is, "Individual UK Jews can be punished for attending shuls we deem Zionist."

Do you have a sensory friendly tallit and can you recommend what I should look for or avoid? Kiddo likes soft woven wools as well as cottons, dislikes anything itchy, and fidgeting in shul for hours is his jam, so the more I give his hands to play with the better.

Jewsky, a request for assistance: Kiddo asked for a "textured" tallit. Something not too heavy bc shul gets hot sometimes, but with plenty for a sensory seeker. He identified our touristy woven blanket as ideal (see image.) The only Judaica shop in our town closed; where should I order from?

I think people forget that struggle and problem solving are part of the human experience. Creativity and socializing within creative settings such as eating the dinner someone planned and cooked for you are some of the best parts of being human. Why would we want to forgo that?

Meal planning seems to be the example folks are using here so I'll use it as well. People run out of ingredients, they adjust based on personal taste. The house heats up on a hot summer day some decide to cook outdoors. Kids want a pie at the last minute. We could have AI make us Soylent Green tho.

As someone who breaks my life into a series of tasks more than most people (e.g. walking is a practiced series of conscious muscle activations and cooking is a more complex series of planned physical and cognitive activities), I think we often downplay the role of flexibility in human systems

Journal impact factor: 2.4 Me: I wonder why it was published here Them: Admittedly not a great study
Vaccination findings ‘unexpected’
Recent COVID vaccination was associated with a 44% higher rate of persistent symptoms compared with no vaccination in the prior six months, findings the researchers call “unexpected.”

They hypothesize that the results may have been influenced by selection or misclassification bias, and they note that the results were self-reported, without benchmarks for moderate or severe symptoms. They also caution that the study wasn’t designed to determine the effects of vaccination.

All the money in the world is less valuable to me than the joy I've derived from pursuing knowledge and become a more creative problem-solver. What is the point of this massive computational power? Will it enrich our lives? Even if achievable, is an intellectually effortless life worth living?
