I spent 36 months growing alongside allotmenteers & guerilla gardeners 4 my doctorate. 1 of the things I hadn’t expected to learn was: Growing plants is a lot about love. Love travels through allotment fences in bags of surplus food. It appears in neglected city corners people cultivate anyway.

One of the oddest things I found while researching allotments was the no 6. A 1908 law says a request from 6 registered voters for allotments must be considered by the council. I spoke with people who’d enacted this. Sometimes changing a city begins with 5 other people. What would you ask for?
