there's so much bad in the world but there's also people who lift up and carry an elderly bat around every day so he can pretend he's flying again, and that's the part of the world I think is worth fighting for

Just discovered an insane new form of co-intelligence where you briefly share the mind of a great thinker in history and then a portion of their mind travels in yours for the rest of your life. Calling it a "book."

When I heard Musk say this on Tuesday, my assumption was that it was a programming issue. Because I can code and have written to databases and because I am familiar with other examples of default values being misinterpreted. Yet somehow Musk isn't.

We've entered a lawless food weekend. Pumpkin pie for breakfast. Stuffing and mashed potatoes for lunch. Cold turkey sandwich for dinner. There are no rules.

Very inspiring news in this piece to one who lives in this state, covering the current state of high-speed rail, CalVolunteers, and the privately owned but public minded mapping company Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI).

An early Halloween cartoon for New Scientist.
Image: A cavernous laboratory filled with sinister outdated equipment, pickled organs, a pentagram and a corpse on a slab. Outside the window, bats fly past the moon while at a desk an angry-looking woman with crazed hair and a lab coat writes in a ledger.

Caption: Janet had not imagined that being an evil scientist would involve so much evil paperwork.
