If you're in Ōtautahi this week, come check out this play directed by the pōtiki. It sounds like it's whip-smart, hilarious, joyful, and also has interesting reflections on gender, theatre and copyright law. events.humanitix.com/godot-is-a-w... I'm excited to see it!!

Honesty not sure! Cards? I guess if forced, maybe index cards, cause index cards have to look like this... cue cards can also be little chopped up pieces of paper/card you put your notes on.

I think @adzebill.bsky.social obviously either didn't give enough speeches as a child, or was too good at them to use cue cards!

Jen Hay @jbhay.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
Cue cards have notes on them for cueing a speech or somesuch. Index cards are for indexing a catalog or something. Same actual object I guess, but different function!

These are all great questions that will help us be more explicit in the future studies. Thank you!

Jen Hay @jbhay.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
We are not allowed to use it for anything not explicitly consented to. Which in this case is just the study of pronunciation. That excludes training AI models (and we wouldn't want to do that anyway!!)
110
Jen Hay @jbhay.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
Very fair point that this could be more explicit. Selling it or sharing it with non researchers is eliminated by the clause : "I consent to audio of my voice being recorded, and understand that this recording will only be available to bona-fide researchers at the University of Canterbury."

We will be conducting linguistic analysis on the recordings, and using them to understand the ways in which toki pona varies across different words and contexts, and how much variation there is across different types of speakers. Please feel free to ask us questions! (3/4)

We're a group of graduate students at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. For our Sociophonetics class (Ling412), we are doing a research project about variation in the pronunciation of toki pona. You'll be recorded reading some sentences, and then be asked a few background questions. (2/4)

Scoop: For nearly a year, NSF has struggled to make new grants. Now we know that it will not catch up. In fact, NSF will award just 6,100 new grants—a 30% y/o/y decline, itself down from a previous avg. of 11,000+. In fact, the last time NSF awarded so few grants was in the early '80s.

That's so kind! The play is in September & the kids will want to rehearse with it between nowish and then, which is possibly too long for something taking pride of place on a bookshelf??! Perhaps I could see if a more superfluous one emerges, but come back to you if I don't find a dusty garage one?

Published today. The vowel in 'just' is undergoing an independent sound change, separate from any changes to KIT or STRUT. Today's L4 at inflekt.net requires knowing a quirk of the dictionary. I wonder if you've found it yet @upsidebackwards.bsky.social ?

I hit my head against the L4 inflekt, then realised I was mistakenly doing a regular puzzle instead of the daily. So here it is via the 'share puzzle' feature, in case @amycgale.bsky.social, @upsidebackwards.bsky.social or (anyone else) can beat me. greybeetle213.github.io/inflect/?mUK...

First day in a while I've found time for a L5 (life needs to calm tf down). This one wasn't too hard, though can probably be beaten without too much effort.
