Stop normalizing use of VerticalRaise & SnapRaise for school fundraising! They hold captive audience meetings for kids, force kids to give away personal contact information, & then take an 18%+ cut! These for-profit companies are private equity funded; don’t allow them to squeeze you for more $$!

Obviously horrible & more of Stephen Miller’s evil but I remember more than a few local urban Dems humming a few bars of this the last time crime surged. Included a few Strib letter-writer frequent fliers. Had to unfollow more than a few on Twitter.

First time ever seeing an eastern bluebird in the metro, flock of white throated sparrows, and super cute little fluff Philadelphia vireo (I’ve seen flickers and phoebes before of course but not they didn’t qualify for my List of Birds I’ve Seen from my Home Office)

Soccer Post ➡️ York Ordering defaults to extra $8.99 fee for the privilege of “free returns”. If your kid’s team marks item as “required”, won’t let you order items individually (i.e. can’t order the uniform unless you also order 2 pairs of socks you don’t need & your kid will just chop up anyhow)

110

JBF @jbf.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

BSN ➡️KKR Gives schools “free” equipment in exchange for contracting to buy all uniforms from them. Items not printed locally, partners with Amazon. “Rewards” to schools for buying extra merch, fan apparel, etc….but the reward credit can only be used on more BSN items

JBF @jbf.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Vertical Raise ➡️Accel KKR Fundraising via captive audience meetings with kids, everyone get out your phone and enter the personal info of your loved ones. Ope sorry kids without wealthy relatives. Don’t worry, they only take 15% of the $25 grandma sent

110

JBF @jbf.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Hudl ➡️Bain Capital Mediocre video streaming of games for $16k+ per year. Will run your ticket sales in exchange for 25%+ in “processing fees”. Sport-specific software access that benefits, at best, maybe 1% of the students

🤡 Schmitt beclowns himself 🤡 Schmitt concocted an elaborate conspiracy theory that Smith traveled to Atl for a Hawks game and to collude with Fani Willis, & flashed his "evidence" before accusing Smith of perjury. There's just one problem -- his facts were totally wrong. Here's the whole sequence:

Hey other parents, did you know Vertical Raise and Snap Raise are funded by private equity? They’re for-profit entities that will squeeze a cut of donations from grandma as much as you let them.

ICE has abducted Senegalese WBB player Aminata Seck and won't release her. DHS 'policy' is to provide medical care to prisoners at intake, yet they admit to denying her care for an ACL injury for 1.5 months. The NCAA is letting it happen, despite its predatory recruitment of ICAs. We explain.

ICE has abducted a college athlete. What are the NCAA and universities going to do about it?

Aminata Seck’s detention shows the bargain facing international college athletes: universities eagerly recruit them, but support can disappear when their immigration status becomes precarious.

American firefighters primarily function as paramedics, actually. Up to 80% of calls are for emergency medical services, not fires. They reverse overdoses, take people to hospitals, perform CPR, and do advanced life support. For everyone.

I miss 80s & 90s soundtrack albums. I bought this CD immediately for the new Tori track but am thinking about it today because the Duncan Sheik track is great. A nice angsty little time capsule of late 90s music.

Seriously what was going on with this movie poster (and therefore soundtrack CD cover).

1998 movie poster for Great Expectations with naked Gwyneth lying on a black drop cloth with giant zoomed in Ethan Hawke face kind of like weirdly just above her back? And there’s a shadowed beards guy with a tiny face hovering over Pepper’s head? Good font for the title though I guess
