Coach Vigil Makes History This Thursday, Community Invited to Celebrate

A new era of Roseville soccer kicks off Thursday evening for the home opener at RAHS Stadium. At 20 years 11 months and 7 days old, new Head Coach Joseph Vigil will be the youngest head coach in Minnesota State High School League history, in any sport.

Prior to taking the helm at Roseville, Coach Vigil spent two seasons at Simley High School. During his tenure at Simley, the team had its most successful seasons to date, including a trip to the state tournament in 2025. Vigil holds a US Soccer Federation Class C coaching license.

Also notable is Coach Vigil’s status as a Roseville Area High School graduate and former player. “I’m thrilled to be back home at Roseville,” said Vigil. “I firmly believe in giving back to my community, as someone who sees the huge potential here. I want the boys’ soccer program to be something the whole community is excited about.”

The Boys Soccer Booster Club invites everyone to attend the match this Thursday. “So many people experienced the joy of soccer through the World Cup this summer and we hope that folks can now keep it local by supporting this program,“ said Booster Club President Jamie Becker-Finn. “Having a homegrown talent like Coach Vigil leading these student athletes is something we want to celebrate with everyone in the Roseville school community.”

Roseville takes on Spring Lake Park on Thursday, August 27th at 7pm at the Roseville Area High School Stadium, 1240 County Road B2 West, Roseville, MN 55113.
