I had a fantastic time at the 10th International Symposium of Runes and Runic Inscriptions. It was held in Copenhagen, which meant I got to see these amazing early runic inscriptions! I gave a paper on the new runic finds from England.

A #runic find in the Faroes, might be a medieval grave slab. A possible readable sequence on the photo looks like ‘huilir’, i.e. ‘hvílir’ (“rests”). But photos can deceive and are never sufficient in themselves. We can look forward to learning about this inscription from those inspecting the stone.

Runes of the week! The Brandon Pin dates to the 8th or 9th century, and found in Suffolk. It is a pin, possibly a dress or hair accessory. It features a runic inscription which is a partial runic alphabet. It reads: fuþorcjwhnij|ïpxs. There are possibly more runes after this.

Here’s one of my favourite objects, the Harford Farm brooch. There’s a repair on the front, and the back has a runic inscription on it reading either ‘Luda repaired the brooch’ or ‘Luda makes amends by means of this brooch’. I was lucky enough to see this at Norwich Castle Museum in 2024. #runology
