# Toot Wales Mobile App ## Roadmap * Add Mastodon’s four profile links (put your links in bio for now) * Allow alternative accounts on other domains ## Known Issues * Accounts using MFA need to sign in via the Web app * Opening the app sometimes stops music playing (Android) * Previously viewed mentions and/or notifications may be marked as unread in the app * Add a Starter Pack (or new tab) that shows Mastodon’s algorithmic account recommendations General note: some advanced functionalities are reserved to the Web interface and are not available in-app, see “Advanced settings” in the Settings tab. ## Design Notes Certain design decisions make the app different from the Mastodon Web view. * Direct mentions will never show up in public feeds, they are only visible in the “Conversations” tab. * Direct mentions are renamed “Conversations” * New (non-direct) posts are disabled while in the Conversations tab (so you don’t accidentally post something private to Public) * “Local” feed: The local feed is the timeline of our community. Therefore, we include top level posts AND replies from our community members, even to conversations happening between Toot Wales and third party services. * The Local feed is renamed “Tŵt” * Search and Explore are separated. The Search tab/interface does not show you trending or recommended content. Search is search. * Trending posts and hashtags are available in the “Explore” tab. * “Receive mobile notification” AND “Receive email notifications” are enabled by default. You can disable these in the Settings tab. * The Profile tabs are “Posts”, “Replies”, and “Boosts”. Posts only contains top level authored posts, Replies only contains in-reply-to posts, Boosts only contains boosts.

The more startling or controversial a post is, the more the algorithm pushes it into your feed, regardless of your mental space or well-being. This is the opposite of a mindful community. At Tŵt, we use Content Warnings (CWs) as a way to practice “people-first” networking. Using a CW for sensitive media or heavy topics isn’t about hiding the truth or practicing censorship; it is about providing a digital “cwtch.” It gives your friends and neighbours the agency to choose when they are ready to engage with a difficult subject. This is what digital sovereignty looks like in practice. It is the freedom to set our own boundaries and the mindfulness to respect the boundaries of others. When we choose to use a content warning, we are rejecting the extractive “outrage” model and replacing it with a culture of mutual respect. It’s a little thing, but it is exactly what makes #BetterSocial possible. **This week’s #LittleThings** – before you post a busy image or a heavy topic, consider adding a Content Warning. It’s a simple way to respect the mental space of your neighbours.
