Palenque, Chiapas, incense burner, 600-900CE, made by great craftsmans. This piece features the idealized face of one of the Palenque rulers, above which are sacred figurines in the form of masks and fantastical birds. At the top is a delicate representation of an human figurine holding a copal bag.
