The most absolutely massive flex from the state fair exhibit. This quilt is made of 40 years of prize ribbons from various categories at the New Mexico State Fair won by Carol St. Clair Johnson. She also won a prize for this quilt.

satin ribbons

After unexpectedly winning her first blue ribbon for a sewn cape in 1981, Carol St. Clair Johnson developed an enduring love for the New Mexico State Fair. The quilt Fair New Mexico-41 Fair Years incorporates more than six hundred of the ribbons she won at the fair every subsequent year except 2020 (when the fair was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson earned ribbons for needlework, knitting, crochet, pies, cookies, cakes, canning, jewelry, flowers, vegetables, and potted plants. The title of the quilt is a reference to the state song, and the design places the state's Zia sun symbol at the center. The quilt earned Johnson yet another ribbon: Best in Category (miscellaneous quilt) at the 2023 New Mexico State Fair.

Thematically speaking, the most important thing Terry Pratchett taught me was the concept of militant decency. The idea that you can look at the world and its flaws and its injustices and its cruelties and get deeply, intensely angry, and that you can turn that into energy for doing the right thing and making the world a better place. He taught me that the anger itself is not the part! should be fighting. Nobody in my life ever said that before.

Finished stitching my 2025 book tracker! Been very satisfying to catch up on at least one craft project. It's helping me find little sparks of joy in the world right now. Pattern by thestircrazycrafter & purchased on Etsy. Genres & representative colors chosen by me. #books #reading #crossstitch
A small cross stitch project photographed against a polka dot background.

The project is a bookshelf with "2025" across the top of the bookshelf. Five shelves are filled with different colors of books. Each color represents a genre.

Below the project is a cross stitched color key that lists the genres and corresponding colors. These genres are: romance, sci-fi, fantasy, horror, thriller, mystery, why a contemporary, essays, why a fantasy, y a sci-fi, memoir/ biography, history, literature and general fiction, and reference.

I started reading this Christmas gift. Twenty pages in I am completely charmed.
A pale hand holds the novel, Love Requires Chocolate by Ravynn K. Stringfield.

The novel's cover is mostly in shades of pink and blue. The title is in the top third in large letters.

The illustration shows a young couple on what looks like a rooftop in Paris. Off to the right is the Eiffel Tower, and in the bottom left is a shop sign that says "Chocolat Doré."

The author's name is in large pink letters across the bottom of the cover.

Spotted at Dragon Con! #SaveWOT
On the corner of the Westin hotel in Atlanta, Georgia, digital billboard that wraps around the corner of the building advertises the save The wheel of Time campaign. The image has the character Rand al'Thor carrying the character of Moiraine with spears that have been shoved into the ground and are now standing on end all around them. The text on the billboard reads: Save The Wheel of Time. Savewot.com

Jinu shrine already has a start as of Wednesday night/Thursday morning at Dragon Con. Spotted by my husband in, I think, the Marriott. Or maybe the habitrail tubes connecting Marriott & Hyatt.
A photo of Jinu from K-pop demon hunters rests against a baseboard on a pale tile floor. Googly eyes have been added to the image. In front of the photo are offerings that are the beginning of an impromptu shrine. These offerings include electric candles, candy, a guitar pick, and some change.
