Maybe a bit early to discuss the process whatever the outcome may be here. But Man City investigation started in 2018. The club was charged more than 3 years ago. In that time, the team has continued unmolested, recruiting at incredible fees, winning at great frequency. The PL still can’t comment.

We can now look forward to a long appeal process, I know. But we can also say, now, "Manchester City, who were found guilty of 114 charges..." every time we mention the club's name; and I believe we should. No more "allegations". They were found guilty, and that is a fact.

Hear me out... Every time a team gets a ProRef apology letter, they can use it to override a ref/VAR call in a future game. Or they can save up 3 and cash them in for 3 points at any time during the season. If they get 5 in one season, they get to sack a ref of their choosing.

The VAR should be a completely separate organization to the on field referees, whose sole purpose is getting the right decision... Not worrying about protecting their mate on the pitch who will then be their VAR the following week. 2 organizations only worried about doing their job right

And that’s before you get into refs being paid a fortune by owners of PL clubs to referee friendlies, or refs having massive scandals that call their integrity into question. English football continues to stick its head in the sand over a potentially existential issue.

You’ve got refs going on podcasts saying “I decided to play a game with myself rather than reffing the match” & going on tv shows saying “I didn’t overturn a wrong call because I felt bad for my mate” but somehow there’s still debate about whether pro ref is fit for purpose
